Viaggiando su nuovi veicoli Mercedes 4WD, vedrai una fattoria funzionante con pecore, mucche e capre, mentre godi di una vista mozzafiato sullo Stretto di Cook, sull'Isola del Sud e sulle catene montuose di Kaikoura. Una volta giù al livello del mare, incontreremo alcuni abitanti molto amati della zona: le foche pelliccia della Nuova Zelanda. Itinerario
Iniziamo il nostro viaggio a Otari-Wilton's Bush: cento ettari di foresta antica e rigenerante e l'unico giardino botanico della Nuova Zelanda dedicato esclusivamente alle piante autoctone. Designato giardino a sei stelle di importanza internazionale dal New Zealand's Gardens Trust del Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, Otari-Wilton's Bush ci permette di presentarti come era il paesaggio della Nuova Zelanda per i primi coloni Maori ed europei. Successivamente proseguiamo attraverso la periferia e verso la costa meridionale. Spegnendo la strada principale, utilizziamo il nostro accesso privato attraverso la stazione Terawhiti, una delle stazioni più antiche e più grandi della Nuova Zelanda. Probabilmente vedremo pecore, mucche e capre durante la salita sulla collina, prima di goderci viste mozzafiato sullo Stretto di Cook, sui Kaikoura Ranges e sull'Isola del Sud una volta raggiunta la cima. Seguiremo quindi la strada di crinale creata per l'imponente Project West Wind, un parco eolico da 62 turbine che genera abbastanza elettricità per alimentare tutte le case nella regione di Wellington. Questa città è conosciuta come Windy Welly per un motivo! Una volta iniziata la discesa verso il livello del mare, in lontananza apparirà il faro di roccia di Karori, più comunemente noto come il “faro pendente”. Costruita nel 1915 in seguito all'affondamento della SS Penguin, la torre dismessa alta 19 metri era uno dei primi fari automatizzati della Nuova Zelanda e, sì, è inclinato! Lo vedrai tu stesso una volta raggiunta la costa e attraversato il sentiero roccioso e sabbioso verso Tongue Point e la colonia di otarie orsine native della Nuova Zelanda. All'arrivo, scenderemo dal veicolo e passeggeremo sulla spiaggia per osservare queste adorabili creature nel loro habitat naturale mentre prendono il sole, giocano e nuotano. If you're debating doing this, stop and just do it. I had a wonderful time, learned a ton from my guide, James, and saw a part of Wellington that a lot of people never see. It's so worthwhile, and the Beach Potatoes (seals) are just adorable and chill. Just book it, you won't regret it!

This is a truly amazing one of a kind tour because it goes thru spectacular scenery with views ( if not too cloudy) all the way to the South Island. Some parts feel like lord of the rings country plus the mountains to the sea views with dear seals resting peacefully, is a special and rare experience. My guide Chris was exceptionally friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge to share, in a fun and humorous way. A big warm Thankyou to Chris!

Thoroughly enjoyed our morning with Andy, travelling out to the Seal Colony and spending time amongst them. The weather was drizzly and cloudy but to be honest, it added to the dramatic scenery and because you get driven right to the activity it wasn’t really a problem. We then stopped for an informative walk around the local native gardens and back to our accommodation. Great morning’s entertainment!

This is a great way to spend half a day in Wellington. The first stop is quite interesting and the drive to the coast is pretty amazing. The coastline here is so dramatic. It really was spectacular to visit. Also, the guide, Grant, was knowledgeable and friendly and made the day very pleasant.

This is one of the best tours I’ve ever taken! We covered so much beautiful terrain- from the lush forests, to viewpoints in the mountains, down to the amazing coast. Marc was absolutely incredible and clearly is passionate about his job. I took several tours while in Wellington, and this was by far my favorite. I was also impressed that they ran the tour for just me after another group canceled.

We had an absolutely amazing tour guide, Marc. Marc had great knowledge of the region and its history, the flora and fauna. Marc was very welcoming, knowledgeable and fun. We are taken on a tour of gardens, which were beautiful. We then went off road, through a private very exclusive property. We made our way down to the seals, where two oceans meet. Lots of beautiful seals and the coastline was stunning. Honestly, an amazing experience, made even better with a wonderful tour guide. This is an absolute must do.

if you’re keen for an experience away from touristy crowds and to see seals in their natural habitat - highly recommend this tour. not rushed, plenty of time to enjoy and some of the most amazing scenery on private land.
