Was an amazing tour! Guides were great, Sea Glass Island was very cool. We ended up taking a small boat vs kayak because the winds were blowing. We could have done the kayak, it was just our preference.
The island was beautiful but your guide was an hour late and clearly just woke up and hung over. He spoke very little to us. We had to call twice to see what was going on as we were at the spot sitting and waiting. The tour company apologized to us but the guide did not and barely spoke at all when he did it was obvious he was hurting which make me nervous that he had my one teenager in his kayak since the water was so choppy they insisted on doubles and we were a husband wife and the kids so the oldest went with him. The island was gorgeous and fun but maybe pick another company or call if they’re not there on time right away don’t wait like we did to give the benefit of the doubt 15 mins. We had another tour in the afternoon so only got to spend 1 hour instead of 2 hours that it was supposed to be since he was late. We did request a partial refund and hopefully they honor that but we will see.
Great visit.. love sea glass. Unablevto kayak due to high einds
This was a lot of fun for my family and I! Our tour guide was very kind and knowledgeable! We will be bringing home more than memories thanks to the glass island.
Great Aruban experience, guide was very accommodating, brought dry bags and water for everyone.
Dont worry about rushing there or the island being "picked over" itll never run out of sea glass. Its literally everywhere and in abundance. Great adventure if you have a small window of time. Perfect for a morning a tivity at 830a thats done by 11 and leaves you the rest of your day. You should be a reasonable paddler to get across the water due to wind and current but its about 500-700ft across the water. My 9yo son and I were in a 2 person clear bottom kayak. Don't worry about clear bottom kayak or not. You cant see anything anyway. Just focus on crossing the water to the island. Jeffery was our guide. He was unbelievably polite and helpful throughout the activity. They have a large dry bag to pack your items to stay dry during kayaking. Once on the island you get a hand hoe and a sandwich bag for your plunder. I recommend a gallon bag and a sturdy one. You can pick glass literally everywhere but some of the best places are holes along the waters edge. You get about 1:45-2hrs island time which is plenty for this activity. Bring a drink, bag, good watershoes. Plan to get a little wet as a result of the kayaking. Youll need to be somewhat surefooted to walk on some parts of the island. Green and white seaglass is quite common. Brown is more scarce, while blue glass is extremely rare. We got very lucky and found a silver dollar sized piece of blue that Jeffery was very excited over.
If you are a treasure hunter, this trip is for you! Just a short kayak trip across the channel takes you to an island FULL of sea glass, pottery, etc. I mean, it's literally covered with sea glass and pottery. The kayak guides are great - helpful if someone is struggling. I arranged for transportation to the launch area and they were timely and provided a little background of the island. We spent about 1.5 - 2 hours on the island treasure hunting then paddled back. I forgot my water bottle in the van on the way back to my resort and the driver (owner) was kind enough to drop it off later in the day. I highly recommend this excursion if you love sea glass!
I’ll try to keep this as short as possible, but this was a fairly poor experience. I do not know the names of the guides because they never introduced themselves so I’ll refer to them as Guide 1 and Guide 2. My wife and I get to the meeting point about 15 minutes early and was told that Guide 1 forgot the “diggers” and had to go back and get them. He returned about 15 minutes late. Guide 2 was nice and friendly and did all the interaction with the group while Guide 1 was totally focused on his phone (maybe the big game was going on, I’m not sure but he never engaged with anyone in the group). Guide 2 helped everyone into the kayaks and gave us instructions on how and where we were going. When we got to the island, Guide 2 helped us out of the kayaks, handed us the “diggers” (hand rakes) and told us to dig for glass (blue and pink were the rare ones) and we could keep the glass and rocks but not the coral and shells and be back in an hour and a half. As everyone was dispersing, someone ask where the glass came from and Guide 2 told us that it was basically waste from an old military base. Guide 2 walked around and interacted with us some as we dug up old broken glass while Guide 1 stayed glued to his phone the entire time. I would not do this again and do not recommend.
Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify a few points regarding your experience. One of our guides did briefly return to retrieve additional equipment before the tour began, which resulted in a short delay. We apologize for that inconvenience. Regarding the use of a phone, our guides often use their phones during excursions for operational purposes, including communicating with transportation providers, coordinating upcoming tours, monitoring weather conditions, handling reservations, and ensuring guest safety. While it may have appeared that a guide was disengaged, that was not the case. As you noted in your review, the second guide provided paddling instructions, assisted guests with launching and landing, explained the activity, answered questions, and interacted with participants throughout the experience. Sea Glass Island is intentionally designed as a self-guided exploration where guests are given time to independently search for sea glass and enjoy the island at their own pace rather than participate in a heavily guided tour. The history of the sea glass on the island is well documented, and many guests enjoy the unique opportunity to search for pieces that have naturally weathered over decades. We respect that this experience may not be for everyone, but we believe your review overlooks the assistance, instruction, and supervision that were provided throughout the excursion. We appreciate your visit and wish you safe travels.
We were picked up at our hotel which made it nice and convenient. I was surprised to see that we weren’t supplied with life jackets or clear bottom kayaks. They said the water was too rough for kayaks and thought it best if we went by boat. I did notice the only two kayaks there were old and had no clear bottoms. Our guides brought us and another couple to an island. We were handed a small baggie along with a hand held rake in which to dig with. The island was very rocky and covered with sea glass. They even shared some pieces they had found with us. Overall it was a good time.
On time and very professional, had a lovely time, very informative, very friendly, enjoyed it a lot. We were 60+ age wise, and they were very respectful and helpful.
