La storica città di Colonia del Sacramento, fondata nel 1680, evoca immagini dell'antica Lisbona per la sua architettura in stile portoghese e le sue strade tortuose. Colonia si trova nella parte sud-occidentale dell'Uruguay, sul fiume Plate, e nel 1995 l'UNESCO l'ha dichiarata Patrimonio dell'Umanità. È possibile visitare Colonia facilmente con il traghetto da Buenos Aires in una sola gita di un giorno, e questo è uno dei motivi per cui le sue spiagge sono una destinazione popolare di grande attrazione turistica per gli argentini. Tra i suoi principali monumenti, la Chiesa matrice, che è la più antica del paese, il Museo Municipale e un porto risalente al XVII secolo che si fonde armoniosamente con il fiume.
Fu costruito nell'anno 1745 per ordine del governatore portoghese Vasconcellos che a quel tempo stava conducendo queste terre. Alle sue origini la Porta era il portico di ingresso alla Colonia, protetto in quel periodo da un forte esercito di mura spesse che erano frequentemente bersaglio di attacchi di pirati, spagnoli e inglesi.
Nasce in Plaza Mayor e continua su un pendio verso il Río de la Plata. È una strada stretta con caratteristiche portoghesi, acciottolata con una zeppa e senza marciapiedi. I lati sono inclinati verso il centro per formare un canale di drenaggio. Le case, costruite nella prima metà del XVIII secolo, hanno muri in pietra, tetti di tegole e pavimenti in ceramica. Le porte e le finestre sono piccole e in legno, sebbene siano conservate solo le case con tetto a capanna.
Fu costruito nel gennaio 1857. Ha due lampi rossi ogni nove secondi. È una torre circolare di muratura bianca con una cupola con strisce radiali bianche e rosse. Ha una struttura unica con una base quadrata e una torre cilindrica che raggiunge la lanterna. E 'stato costruito su una delle vecchie torri del Convento di San Francisco, le cui rovine sono ai piedi del faro. La sua altezza è di 26 metri e ha una gamma luminosa di 7,8 miglia nautiche
La Basilica ha una caratteristica altare molto insolita per il suo tempo e anche ora; un'alcova semicircolare retroilluminata che presenta un ostensorio molto grande (ricettacolo per mostrare l'Ostia Sacra o il Santissimo Sacramento). La Plaza de Toros Real de San Carlos si trova nella zona di Real de San Carlos, a 5 km dallo storico quartiere di Colonia del Sacramento, capitale del dipartimento di Colonia, in Uruguay. È l'unico posto che rimane in Uruguay ed è stato eretto con uno stile mudéjar, molto simile all'arena della Spagna, conservando archi e alcuni dettagli di circonferenza. È un lavoro svolto dall'architetto argentino José Marcovich e dall'ingegnere Dupuy. Fu inaugurato il 9 gennaio 1910 con otto piste ufficiali, sebbene ce ne fossero più di ottanta, perché lo spazio per gli spettacoli era ancora utilizzato anche con il divieto di correre dal presidente José Batlle e Ordonez nel 1912.

The ride was great. We were caught by a surprise rain, but we still continued to have a great time with a positive attitude. Colonia is a super beautiful place, great for photos. Very good service! Andrés is super friendly, punctual, without over-expectations, gives you your space as a tourist but also participates enthusiastically, always concerned about his clients, drives well, and has a super clean vehicle!

It was a great day tour with Andres and Carolina. They were right there to pick us up when the ferry landed and Carolina showed us all around the Old Town of Colonia and she gave us lots of interesting information about the town. Her English was excellent and suggested a place for lunch that was superb called Charco and after lunch they took us to a lot of terrific hidden places outside the downtown area before dropping us back off at the ferry. It was a captivating day and the two of them were so kind and inclusive to us. We loved it.

We had so much fun exploring Colonia and Montevideo with Belen and Andrew. They are patience and listen to each of our request and questions from the 15 of us. We definitely will choose them again if we were to visit Uruguay again.

Great experience. We booked a private tour. Andres picked us up at the hotel at the beginning of the day and we returned around 18:00. It was an excellent guide, showing the city as well as guiding the best places. It well left us the will to walk through the colony and handled without any difficulty extra requests.

Really enjoyable trip from Montevideo to Colonial del Sacramento, with our excellent guides Andres and Belen! We toured Montevideo with Andres and Belen and had another fun day learning more about this small but very interesting country. They picked us up on time at our hotel in Montevideo. Our drive to Colonia in the very comfortable van included a rest stop at Granja Colonia - a quite unique museum with the owner’s collection of pencils, keychains, ashtrays, locks and perfume bottle. Belen is very knowledgeable about architecture and colonial history and gave a really engaging tour of Colonia del Sacramento. We were pleasantly surprised that so many of the shops and restaurants were open on Christmas Eve. We thought we would only get to walk around the Historic Quarter and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Highly recommend!

The views are amazing, it is a very bright city,with good restaurants and the like. The Mercado del Puerto can only be visited.

Where do I even begin? Andres is a treasure of Uruguay. This was actually our second tour with him during the week we spent in the country (1st time visitors), and he took such good care of us. Andres picked us up from our hotel in Montevideo and took us on the 2 hour ride to Colonia and back. Aside from the general things that you hope for in a day trip (punctuality, careful driving, historical knowledge of the surroundings), Andres was also very warm and friendly, and he was so attentive to all our needs. Plus, we had great conversations. You can tell that he loves his country and loves what he does, and he takes tremendous pride in both. Additionally, I must mention Karen, who handled the walking tour while we were in Colonia del Sacramento. She was a wonderful guide with a great depth of knowledge and a warm personality. Our time with her was relaxed, enjoyable, and very enlightening! Lastly, I want to give extra thanks to Andres for snagging us a last-minute reservation at El Tio for the same evening as our tour, which was also the last night of our trip as well as Thanksgiving in the US. He personally called the restaurant owner and was able to arrange for us to get the only remaining spot available that night. And we're so happy that he did! The dining experience at El Tio was magnificent, and it was a great way to wrap up our stay. Thank you, Andres, for your knowledge, the unexpected lovely gifts, your thoughtfulness, and your kind heart. Thanks to you, we love Uruguay that much more.

A wonderful day trip to this UNESCO world heritage site. Andrês picked us up on time and we travelled in style whilst viewing some of the beautiful countryside. Karin our guide was very informative and had great knowledge of the town and it's history being a local of many years. We had a lovely lunch in the old square and Andres took us to a great museum and farm on the way back. Overall a great experience and highly recommended, thanks guys

Colonia del Sacramento is a must see! Andres was very communicative in advance of the trip and extremely accommodating with a last minute booking. He outline what we would do on the our, but left plenty of room for my input. Upon arrival in Colonia, Andres introduced me to a local guide partner to do a walking tour of town. The local guide was very knowledgeable and very passionate about her town and gave a very enjoyable tour. Andres made additional recommendations about what to see and do in town and on the ride back to Montevideo. Highly recommend Andres and his local partners!
