Sciare al Monte Olimpico Jahorina – Tour di un’intera giornata da Sarajevo

What a fantastic team at Funky tours. From my pre trip emails to Ema who organised our skiing to our WhatsApp messages in country to check if everything was okay and Alem our charming driver/just we were made to fill nothing was too much to ask. We loved Sarajevo and Jahorina and we will return and book some different trips using Funky tours. This might sound like a clique but we were made to fill like friends rather than clients, and I loved that.

I would easily do this again when I come back to Sarajevo. I booked this tour after taking a tour with Adnan and Yasmine a few days prior. This team is well organized and provided excellent customer service from beginning till end. I also hired them for a transport from Sarajevo to Mostar. Communication is easy. Team is professional. Adnan has a great, easy going sense of humor and explained lyrics of Yugoslav/Bosniak musical luminary Dino Merlin. So in addition to a gorgeous ski day, it was also an unconventional language and culture immersion. Tours I took were efficient without feeling rushed. I had only planned to stay in Sarajevo for 3 days but added 2 because of such great guidance.

This was literally a breathtaking experience for me, mummy, as time and again my breath was taken away as I struggled to move on skis in the snow, even though I barely covered 50cm in distance! Thankfully, Elvira, our charming and expert ski instructor, had a better student in my son, David, who appeared to take to skiing like a duck to water. 'I enjoy the sliding part,' he says. I wish so much that I can say the same, but I was petrified of falling, which i believe, or hope anyway, is common for older learners attempting to ski for the first time! (Speak for yourself, I can hear some comments in readers' heads already!) Nonetheless, I enjoyed the novelty of attempting to ski, and was heartened that David loved it. In my dreams I imagine myself and David curving gracefully down the slope on skis, projecting into my mind the images I saw on the slopes of snowy Mount Bjelasnica, one of the four Olympic Mountains of Sarajevo. If anyone can help us translate this tantalising vision into reality, it has got to be Elvira, our petite and lovely ski instructor, who is all patience as she took us through the basic techniques like stopping properly in a pizza shaped arc, and helped David with some magical sliding in the snow moves. 'Give me one more day, and David will be on the sloptes,' she says, and I totally believe she can work the magic! We would love to be able to learn to ski again under Elvira's expert tutelage, and pray that we can come back again to the Olympic Mountains of Sarajevo to learn with her as our instructor.
