Best trip we did in...

Best trip we did in entire Vietnam. Our guide wasn't even like a guide, more like a friend. Especially excellent in conversation, interested in us but also telling us about previous and next generations living in the valley. Remind me to come back here when I can give 6 stars.

Risposta dell'operatore

Dear Pim, Thank you so much for these kind words — they mean a great deal to me and my whole family. I'm so glad our time together felt less like a formal tour and more like spending the day with a friend. Talking about the generations who have lived and grown up in this valley is one of my favorite parts of hosting guests, and I'm happy it stayed with you long after you left. Knowing you're already thinking of coming back makes me smile. The valley looks a little different with every season, so there will always be something new waiting for you here. Until next time, take care and safe travels. Warm regards, Sue & Family Indigo Snail Boutique H'Mong Homestay

Once in a lifetime experience - just book it

Truly a once in a lifetime experience trekking with Sue and staying with her lovely family. Sue is an experienced and enthusiastic guide with great English that all the other trekking guides seem to really look up to! She knows everyone in the villages :) We trekked through a number of hill tribe villages and learned so much about the Hmong people, ate hearty food sourced from local produce (and which Sue very kindly made sure was plant-based for us), and saw the most stunning views. The homestay was very comfortable with beautiful rustic Hmong decor. We were really pleased that a mosquito net was provided above the bed. One thing to note is that there are lots of animals at the home stay (and in all the villages) - we thought this was great. Make sure to bring good shoes and swimming gear. I brought running shoes and they were not good enough! Whilst the terrain is not difficult, it could be challenging and sloppy depending on the weather unless you have good hiking shoes. I’d also recommend bringing waterproofs, a good covering hat, and lots of sunscreen. Thanks again, Sue!

Dear Laura, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful message — it really touched all of us here. I'm delighted the trek through the hill tribe villages left such an impression, and that the food felt taken care of, plant-based and all. It's important to me that every guest eats well and feels looked after, no matter their needs. I'm also glad the homestay felt comfortable, and that you didn't mind sharing the space with our animal friends — they're part of the family too. Your packing advice for future trekkers is so helpful, thank you for sharing it. Good shoes really do make all the difference on our paths. We hope to see you again one day. Immersion

Great stay! His family took good care of us. The scenery is beautiful and his homestay is great with views of the rice fields.

Risposta dell'operatore

Perfect except the weather.

My guide Mai from Indigo Snail was perfect! She is young but knows so much. Her English is perfect and she wants to learn many things! :) Our weather in March was very cold and cloudy. We didn't see to much. Trip was still great and I enjoyed the bamboo forest. I was alone on the tour but in March I have seen many solo tours around Sapa.

Risposta dell'operatore

Dear Sandra, Thank you so much for your kind words, they mean a lot to me and to Mai especially. I'm so proud that Mai's knowledge and English impressed you, even though she is still young — she works hard to keep learning, and it's wonderful to see that recognized by our guests. I'm sorry the March weather didn't give you the clearest views, but I'm happy the bamboo forest still left a good impression. Traveling solo can feel uncertain in a new place, so it's reassuring to hear you felt comfortable and noticed other solo travelers around Sapa too during your visit. I hope you'll return one day, perhaps under sunnier skies. Warm regards, Sue & Family Indigo Snail Boutique H'Mong Homestay

Overall good, with some hiccups.

Overall we did enjoy the experience, but there were some hiccups in the process. I confirmed our trek and pick-up from our hotel prior, once a few months ahead, second time a few days before the trek, directly with Sue. The night before the set date, we again agreed to meet at 8:30 at our hotel.. In the morning, Sue texted us that she is busy and will send another guide for us. That would be okay. What is not okay is to leave us wait in the rain for an hour, not responding to messages except for one confusing voice message which I didn't understand. And then calling us to tell us that the guide is waiting for us on the other side of the city. After another 15 minutes a woman showed up, confused why are we carrying such a big backpacks. It might be cause the included Luggage storage written in the description of this product. After some discussion and more phone calls our 3 bags were taken away on a motorbike by some guy. Weird, but okay. After that we finally started our trek. The guide overall was good, she was nice, gave us a lot of information, lead us through interesting places. It was rainy that day so the path was very muddy and slippery, but we managed. On the way another young woman joined us, and when we asked who she is the guide informed us she wants to show us some products later. At first we though how nice it is from her to be helping us cross the difificult paths on the way, but she really just wanted us to buy something from her during our lunch, and when we said we didn't want anything, she was really dissapointed and left without a word. During lunch different women kept approaching us and tried to sell us their goods, which was just annoying. We felt like we were in a tourist trap. And this kept happening to us during our whole trek, women trying to help you, talk to you, just to make you feel like you have to buy something from them. I do wish the guides tried to protect their guests from this, because it really damages the whole experience. The Indigo homestay was good, dinner tasty and breakfast tasty. Just the hot water wasn't really working in our room. What we really liked was when on our way we were invited to celebrate the new year with the locals in their home. We drank and ate with them and it was so interesting to see their habits and traditions up close. Next day we continued the trek with Sue. Altough it was supposed be just the two of us, another two guests of the homestay joined us that day. This we didn't mind, since we got to know them the night before and they were quite nice. We trekked through the bamboo forest, to the waterfall.. Sometimes the tempo was a bit slow, especially when the guide(s) were often looking at their phones and then walked really slowly. At the end, another little thing that set us off was when the guide couldn't even find our reservation on tripadvisor. It just shows that there is some space for improvements when it comes to organisation. So I would say in the end our experience was positive as a whole, but some things could have been handled better.

Risposta dell'operatore

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share such an honest and detailed account of your trek with us. I'm truly sorry for the confusion around your pickup and the last-minute guide change — that isn't the smooth experience I want any guest to have, and I take that seriously. I'm also sorry that vendors along the trail made you feel pressured; I want guests to feel free to enjoy the walk without that kind of discomfort, and I'll keep working with local guides on this. I'm glad the unexpected New Year celebration with the community became a highlight, and that the meals and scenery still came through for you. Thank you again for your patience and for helping us improve. Warm regards, Sue & Family Indigo Snail Boutique H'Mong Homestay

Trek and homestay

An amazing 2-day trek and homestay in Sapa! We immersed ourselves in the culture, stunning scenery, and local life. Our guide, Miy, was exceptional—her English was excellent, and she provided a thorough understanding of Sapa's culture and history. The landscape was breathtaking, but it was Miy's passion and knowledge that made the experience truly special. She was welcoming, patient, and customised the tour, sharing fascinating stories throughout. Highly recommend!

Dear Marc, Thank you so much for such a generous review, it really means a lot to our whole family. I'm so glad the two days immersed you fully in local life, and that Mai's English and knowledge of our history came through so clearly. She puts a lot of heart into tailoring each trek to the people she's walking with, so I'm happy that care was felt. The landscapes here are beautiful, but I agree, it's the stories and connection that make the days memorable. Thank you for recommending us to others; that trust means everything to a small, family-run place like ours. We'd love to welcome you back sometime. 10 out of 10, amazing family, amazing trip

We had out trekking with Mai, the daughter of Sue and it was absolutely amazing! She told us a lot about her culture, the other indigenous villages, plants and animals on the ways, and so on. Her English is very good and she can help you with everything. We loved her. The route was beautifull and we were given options on shortcuts or harder, but more beautiful roads. It was zo amazing! In the evening we stayed at the family house. The family is very welcoming and it is lovely to see the house, the children playing and the life there. The food (and happy water) were delicious. The second day we also got to see more houses, the bamboo forest and Mai's own house. Mai and family, thank you so much for the experience!

Dear Anne, Thank you so much for this wonderful message, it made all of us smile. I'm so happy that trekking with Mai felt like such a complete experience — from learning about our culture and neighboring villages, to having the freedom to choose an easier or more scenic route depending on how you felt that day. Seeing our children playing and daily life unfolding around the homestay is something we never stage for guests, so I love that it felt genuine to you. Getting to see Mai's own house on the second day is a special treat, and I'm glad you two got to share that. Thank you for calling it a 10 out of 10, that means everything to us. Beautiful homestay, lovely family, amazing trekking!

My partner and I had the most wonderful two days trekking and 1 night with this beautiful family. We felt so welcomed and comfortable in their lovely homestay. The room was gorgeous, with lovely traditional bedcovers and decorations and a modern bathroom with hot shower. The evening meal was delicious and we got to share it with all of Su's family which was lovely. We also spend two days trekking with Sung, which was an absolutely unforgettably beautiful experience! Such a lovely family and we would definitely recommend them! ❤️

Risposta dell'operatore

Dear Ceola, Thank you so much for such a heartfelt review, it means the world to all of us. I'm so glad you and your partner felt truly welcomed, and that the room and homestay comforts stood out to you. Sharing dinner with the family is one of my favorite parts of hosting, so I'm happy that felt special. I also want to thank you for mentioning Sung — she works so hard on the trail, and it will mean a lot to her to know the two days felt unforgettable. Recommending us to others is the biggest compliment we could ask for. We'd love to welcome you both back again someday. Warm regards, Sue & Family Indigo Snail Boutique H'Mong Homestay

Amazing guide family to trek with in Sapa

What an amazing family to have experienced trekking in Sapa with ! May and her mother were absolutely wonderful tour guides, and treated us to the most wonderful bungalow and home cooked food. They were so sweet and were also there to help no matter what we needed, and taught us so much about the mountains and their customs. They even gave us a bag of rice to take home with us at the end because we told them how much we had enjoyed it. Thank you to the whole family !

Dear Saskia, Thank you so much for this lovely message, it truly means a lot to our whole family. I'm so glad you felt so well looked after, and thank you especially for mentioning May — she and her mother love sharing their home and knowledge with guests, and it makes them so happy to be recognized like this. Hearing that the food and the bungalow made your stay special, and that you learned so much about the mountains and our customs, is exactly what we hope for. The rice was our small way of saying thank you for being such wonderful guests. Warm regards, Sue & Family Indigo Snail Boutique H'Mong Homestay

Amazing experience.

We stayed 1 night and it was a fantastic experience in an extremely characteristic context. Mrs Sue hosted us with affection and care and always made sure we had everything we needed. The location is remote and suitable for a Spartan experience. The beds are comfortable and spacious, and despite the cold of the place in February, the blankets are heavy and warm. Breakfast is mainly banana-based but it is plentiful. There are numerous bathrooms, all well stocked and functioning, and all other services are present. We spent two days and in both of them Sue took us trekking among the rice fields. I strongly recommend this experience and look forward to seeing Sue again in the future.

Dear guest, Thank you so much for such a detailed and heartfelt review, it means a great deal to me. I'm so glad you felt taken care of despite the February cold, and that the warm blankets and comfortable beds helped make up for it. I loved reading that the remote, simple setting felt special to you rather than a drawback — that authenticity is something I always want to protect. I'm also happy the rice-field treks across both days gave you a full picture of life here. I would love to welcome you back to Sapa again in the future, just as you hoped.
