We had a wonderful time on our boat tour with Saltwater Pony Tours — it was truly the highlight of our trip. Captain Henry was extremely knowledgeable and just a very down-to-earth, friendly guy who made everyone feel comfortable right away. We started the tour out seeing so many dolphins, which was incredible. Throughout the ride we learned a lot about the Chincoteague ponies and the annual pony swim — more than we thought we’d ever learn — and we were able to see the ponies and spend lots of time there watching them as well. We also got a nice view of the local lighthouse from the shore, spotted a bald eagle, and saw a variety of birds along the way. The boat was comfortable and the whole experience felt relaxed, informative, and well-run. If you’re looking for a memorable way to see the wild ponies and wildlife around Chincoteague and Assateague, this is truly the tour to take. Five stars!
Incredible experience! We saw lots of dolphins, ponies and birds and loved every moment of it! We were celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary and couldn’t think of a better way to do that!! Very professional and thorough and all round enjoyable time!!
We loved our boat tour! We saw ponies and lots of dolphins. The captain took two different family pictures of us. His assistant helped me off the boat, very nicely.
We had a fantastic experience on our tour. The tour guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. We saw wild horses, a bald eagle and a ton of dolphins. I highly recommend Saltwater pony tours!
We saw ponies! It was a hot day, but the captain still found some, and they were amazing to see grazing on the shore! We also saw bald eagles and several other cool birds, but the ponies were the highlight. The captain was fun, had a lot of interesting information and some great stories. The boat ride was so much fun, I would 100% recommend and I would go again for sure! HIGHLY recommended!

Captain Henry was awesome! I went with my friend and our three daughters- ages 6,9, and 10. Although we did not see any ponies, Captain Henry still made it a very enjoyable and memorable experience with his jokes and personality. We were lucky enough to see more than a handful of dolphins. We spend 4 days in Chincoteague and my daughter said this was her favorite part of the trip! Would highly recommend Saltwater Pony tours
We were hoping to see some ponies but understood that being Friday after the swim week they might be scarce to nil. Even so, we felt like more effort could have been made. Instead, we basically went for a boat ride with our captain giving very little alternative information. There were many things he could have spoken about (local wildlife, fishing buoys, island history, etc, but he spent most of his time chatting with his assistant in board. He also did not use the microphone that seemed to be present, so he was very difficult to hear over the motor. Overall, we got the impression that he was just out to fulfill his time commitment and did not care much about the quality of the experience we had. The other captains with this company may be better but to be safe, maybe consider a different company.
We had a great time with our crew. Captain Henry was extremely knowledgeable. He provided an excellent historical overview of the the island, the ponies and those that lived there before. While we didn’t see any ponies (bummer) we did see dolphins.
Excellent tour with experienced captain who knows the marshland and gets you closer than any other tour boats! We saw the dolphins including the white dolphin and many ponies, even though it was the night before the swim back to the island.
