Forse una delle esperienze più autentiche che un amante del cibo possa vivere a Salonicco è visitare gli storici mercati all'aperto della città. L'atmosfera, la gente e le prelibatezze locali vi ricompenseranno!
Modiano è uno dei mercati più tradizionali di Salonicco. Si trova nel cuore della città e fa parte della vita dei Tessalonicesi da circa 80 anni. La sua costruzione iniziò nel 1922 e fu terminata nel 1930 dall'architetto Eli Modiano. Proveniente da una rinomata famiglia ebrea (sefardita) di Salonicco, Eli era il figlio del banchiere Jacob (Yako) Modiano. Ha studiato architettura a Parigi, in Francia, ed è tornato a Salonicco dove ha creato alcuni degli edifici più importanti della città, tra cui il mercato di Modiano.
Piena di vita, durante tutto il giorno, Piazza Athonos nel centro della città è un luogo amato sia dai Tessalonicesi che dai turisti. Qui, il cibo e la nutrizione giocano il ruolo principale. Troverai spezie, tutti i tipi di tè, frutta secca, verdura e frutta, pesce, prodotti di gastronomia, oltre a piccole boutique con vestiti, accessori fatti a mano e oggetti di decorazione. Inoltre, la tua attenzione sarà immediatamente attratta dagli odori dei deliziosi cibi delle tradizionali osterie della Piazza! Puoi gustarli sia a pranzo che a cena, accompagnati occasionalmente da musica greca dal vivo. Inoltre, nel caso in cui desideri conoscere il lato tradizionale di Piazza Athonos, visita i pittoreschi negozietti che vendono oggetti in vimini fatti a mano e piccoli mobili in legno, realizzati dagli ultimi abili artigiani rimasti.
Louloudadika è una piccola area del centro storico della città che comprende le strade di Komninon, Frangon e Vas. Heraklion, che prende il nome dai vecchi fioristi all'aperto che erano lì. Sfortunatamente solo 4 continuano a funzionare oggi. Negli anni '50 c'erano 11 negozi che vendevano tutti i tipi di fiori e la loro fama raggiunse le città provinciali.

Had an amazing tour led by guide Nikos. Immediately felt comfortable touring the city and learned so much about the food, history and culture! Come hungry. Like very hungry. I was so full by the end 🤣 nikos went above and beyond showing me the metro system and the history behind it!
A great combination of the flavors and tastes of Thessaloniki while learning about the historical context of the food and region. Our tour guide was friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgeable! Patiently answering our questions and allowing for a deviation or two as we walked and talked. Great experience!

We had a fantastic walking food tour of Thessaloniki ! Nikos was a very interesting, informative & funny host. We learned a lot about the history of the city & its food. The tour was at a gentle pace & the many food samples were delicious & very filing ! The highlight was the visit to the markets. We would highly recommend this tour !

The tour was very good with lots of information and conversation. The two hours was just about right and the distance not to long on what was a hot day. We’ll be going back to many of the places we visited.

Nico was an amazing guide. This tour included plenty of local foods as well as a great history of the area and tour of the city. It felt like spending the afternoon with a friend. Would highly recommend this tour.

We had a really great, varied and delicious food tour. We also learned about backgrounds of Thessaloniki and the tour guide was very nice and pleasant.
Our guide Niksos really did his homework checking to make sure he took us to all fresh, handmade bakeries and restaurants and every dish we sampled was top notch! Fresh filo dough rolled by hand for the spanikopita, the bougata was so yummy and every other sweet treat was amazing. Greek coffee was very interesting - not sure if I’ll will give up my morning Nespresso for it but enjoyed it just the same. Very enjoyable tour - highly recommend.
