Mentre l'equipaggio scala gli alberi per salpare, il mare si piega attorno al tuo tavolo privato sul ponte superiore con il tradizionale sartiame di questa nave alta di lusso a 4 alberi e 22 vele che svetta sopra la tua testa, creando un ambiente davvero unico come nessun altro! Siloso Point è separata dal Labrador Park sulla terraferma di Singapore da meno di mezzo chilometro di mare. Questa vicinanza ha alimentato una leggenda metropolitana su un tunnel sottomarino che collega forti di costruzione britannica e batterie di artiglieria in entrambi i luoghi. Nonostante numerosi scavi e restauri, non è stato trovato alcun tunnel e nessuno appare su mappe o documenti. I nomi dei luoghi e delle caratteristiche naturali di Blakang Mati riflettono le comunità locali, la storia economica e sociale, nonché la flora e la fauna dell'isola. Vicino a dove sorge Fort Siloso, oggi c’era un’area conosciuta come Sarang Rimau, tana della tigre in malese, usata dagli Orang Laut per riflettere la loro conoscenza della zona.
Siloso Beach, una delle tre spiagge con lagune balneabili create dalla Sentosa Development Corporation, SDC durante gli anni '70 e '80, ha una ricca storia. Il suo nome deriva dalla parola malese per “roccia”, inizialmente un punto di difesa strategico. È stato trasformato in un vivace hotspot turistico negli anni '70. Oggi, Siloso Beach è rinomata per il beach volley, gli sport acquatici e la vivace vita notturna, dove l'energia non svanisce mai e le feste continuano.
Palawan Beach, prende il nome dalla parola malese “Pahlawan”, che significa guerriero o eroe. Durante il periodo coloniale, i soldati britannici frequentavano Palawan Beach per proteggere i nuotatori dai frequenti avvistamenti di squali e coccodrilli d'acqua salata. Gli inglesi eressero recinti di squali noti come "pagari nuotatori" in malese. Fortunatamente, questi predatori non si trovano più intorno a Sentosa, rendendolo un luogo sicuro e divertente per gli amanti della spiaggia oggi.
Nel 2003, Sentosa Cove è stata lanciata come un'enclave recintata di 117 ettari con 2600 case, tra cui ville fronte oceano, ville e condomini. Dei 117 ettari, 100 ettari sono terreni bonificati. L'area comprende cinque isole artificiali Coral Island, Paradise Island, Treasure Island, Sandy Island e Pearl Island, per lo più riservate ai bungalow. Gli sviluppi residenziali sono raggruppati nelle zone nord e sud. A giugno 2015, Sentosa Cove ospitava oltre 5000 residenti che vivevano in 2160 case, principalmente condomini, case a schiera e bungalow.
L'isola di Lazzaro, un tempo conosciuta come Pulau Sakijang Pelepah, che significa isola di cervi e palme in malese, ospitava capannoni per il confino alla fine del XIX secolo. Questi sono stati abbandonati dopo l’audace fuga di un prigioniero. Oggi, l'isola attira i visitatori sulla sua spiaggia di sabbia bianca e pulita su una laguna a forma di c conosciuta come uno dei segreti meglio custoditi di Singapore. Had my proposal to my girlfriend and now my fiancé, she said yes! Staffs helped a lot all throughout the cruise. They also took photos and videos for me. Food was lovely although you might want to encourage the chef not to hover over passengers while they are selecting their food. Wine quality was terrible. Flowers were beautiful. BUT seriously people stop with all the marketing emails. I signed up with Trip Advisor not with you. But you are abusing the access to send me way too many emails. Over 30 odd. And when I ask you to stop you then sent me two on the same day. So I asked again. And now you send me 3 of the same. Which is why I have rated this experience so poorly.

I went on this lovely cruise as a birthday surprise invitation by my wife. The ship is beautiful, well maintained, and the staff were generally kind and courteous. The food was also tasty, albeit some portions were somewhat small. (Par for the course in Singapore). While the service was good, I found that the service staff is not empowered to do what is necessary to delight the customer. For example, I was set to order a Long Island ice tea but I didn’t like Cuervo tequila and asked nicely if they would use Don Julio instead. The waiter looked at me as if I was from Mars, but he proceeded to tell me that he would have to check with his manager! He came back in a few minutes and promptly told me “So sorry, cannot”. At $25 dollars per drink, I would have expected a bit more flexibility and accommodation. If your business is in the hospitality industry, then this shouldn’t be such a difficult guest request. Similarly situation occurred as I asked for a 2nd roll of bread. There seems to be a scarcity mindset on board, which is incongruent with general principles of hospitality. I would have been more inclined to order more drinks if I the manager had been a bit more thoughtful and accommodating.

The overall experience is just great. It’s a nice cruise, and all the catering staff is very attentive if you need anything. Buffet food can be a hit and miss, but no complaints here as the food was good quality as were the free flow drinks. Special thanks to Captain Mike Willie and his crew who are not only sailing the ship, but also interacting with the guests. And thanks to him for answering my nautical question as well. It is good to know that this cruise does not take place under sail, but with engine power. For sure there are operational reasons for that. If you’re looking a pure sailing cruise, do enquire before if it will be under sail or under engine power.
