La basilica fu fondata dall'imperatore romano Costantino I sul luogo di sepoltura di San Paolo, dove si diceva che, dopo l'esecuzione dell'apostolo, i suoi seguaci eressero un memoriale, chiamato cella memoriae. Questa prima basilica fu consacrata da papa Silvestro nel 324.
La via Appia era una strada romana utilizzata come via principale per le forniture militari dalla sua costruzione a tale scopo nel 312 a.C. La via Appia fu la prima lunga strada costruita appositamente per trasportare truppe al di fuori della regione più piccola della grande Roma (questo era essenziale per i romani). Le poche strade fuori città erano etrusche e andavano principalmente in Etruria. Alla fine della Repubblica, i romani si erano espansi su gran parte dell'Italia e erano maestri nella costruzione di strade. Le loro strade iniziarono a Roma, dove si trovava il principale itinerario, o elenco di destinazioni lungo le strade, e si estesero fino ai confini del loro dominio - da qui l'espressione "Tutte le strade portano a Roma".

Le Mura Aureliane (in italiano: Mura aureliane) sono una linea di mura cittadine costruite tra il 271 d.C. e il 275 d.C. a Roma, in Italia, durante il regno degli imperatori romani Aureliano e Probo. Sostituirono la precedente cinta muraria serviana costruita nel IV secolo a.C.
La Piramide di Cestio (in italiano, Piramide di Caio Cestio o Piramide Cestia) è un'antica piramide a Roma, in Italia, vicino a Porta San Paolo e al Cimitero Protestante. Fu costruito come una tomba per Gaio Cestio, un membro della corporazione religiosa di Epulones. [1] Sorge a un bivio tra due antiche strade, la Via Ostiensis e un'altra strada che correva a ovest verso il Tevere lungo la linea approssimativa della moderna Via Marmorata. Grazie alla sua incorporazione nelle fortificazioni della città, è oggi uno degli edifici antichi meglio conservati di Roma.
