Itinerario

Ingresso incluso105 min

Beautiful Towns, But Not Quite the Wine Tour We Expected

Overall, we had a nice day and enjoyed seeing the beautiful towns, but the tour didn’t quite match our expectations of a wine tour. Our day started off a bit stressful because our train was stopped on the tracks and not moving. We arrived only about three minutes late (7:33am) and we were receiving texts well before departure that the bus was going to leave without us (starting at 7:20am we received a text asking our ETA and we were in constant communication regarding our train delay). Because of those few minutes (and another family was in the same situation), we missed our transfer at the first destination. We completely understand the importance of staying on schedule, but allowing a small grace period for guests who are new to a city and who are only a few minutes late due to transportation delays would make for a much better experience. We wish the itinerary was more wine focused, as noted in the title. Of the three stops, only one (the 2nd stop) included wine which was a lunch with a wine pairing. The first stop focused on the history of the town and included quite a bit of walking to even get to the town, and the final stop was free time to explore on our own. Since this was titled a wine tour, we would have loved to see more winery visits, tastings, or wine-related experiences. We were also surprised by how much time was spent on the bus. There were long drives, some around an hour and a half—between each destination, so a significant portion of the day was spent traveling. We had expected the towns to be closer together. To no fault to guide the driver, but there was an accident on the highway so it took us a significant time to return to Rome and we did not return back until about 8:30 PM. We spent more time in transportation than at the destinations. Lastly, our guide was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate, but the commentary during the bus rides was almost nonstop. After a while, it seemed like many people were trying to relax or nap during the long drives, but the microphone remained on for almost all of the journey. We would have appreciated a little more quiet time, especially with our additional time we had in traffic, with the commentary focused on the highlights and important information about each destination! It would have made the commentary and her information more valuable. Overall, the tour has a lot of potential, and with a few adjustments—a little more flexibility with arrival times, a stronger emphasis on wine experiences, and a bit more downtime during the bus rides, it would be an even more enjoyable experience!!

Sights good guide not so much

Sights were amazing wine tour was fantastic but oh goodness the guide did not stop taking. Although she meant well she did not read the room. It was far too much and just talked about random Roman things - we booked a wine tour not a history lesson. Literally did not stop talking.

Do this, you won't regret it

The whole day was organized really well. We didnt feel rushed at any point even though there wasnt a lot of time to wander around at the Civita or Pienza - we felt it was enough. Our guide, Marielena, was funny, polite and really thoughtfull to everyone on board. It was nice that we only had a small group of 14 and a mini buss with usbc-chargers and air conditioning. Our driver, Roberto, was also a talented and calm driver. The food at Montepulciano was surprisingly tasty and fullfilling - and dont get me started about the wine.
