I honestly don't know where to start, because every part of this tour delivered more than I expected. The scenery alone was worth the trip. We wound along the landscape shifting between dense green banks, through the trees, and among the desert-like mountain side. Our guide had an easy, knowledgeable way of pointing out details we would have completely missed on our own, from local plant life to bits of regional history tied to the island. The meal at the end of the tour was insanely good. Fresh, simple, clearly local ingredients, and everything tasted like it had been made with real care rather than just packed for tourists. It was the kind of meal that makes you slow down and actually savor it - exactly what you want after a morning of walking. The olive oil press museum was an unexpected highlight. We went in thinking it might be a quick stop, but it turned into a lesson on the traditional pressing methods, the history behind the groves in the region, and then getting to actually take different oils side by side. What really stood out was the pacing - nothing felt rushed, and nothing felt like dead time either. Trekking Hellas clearly knows how to balance nature, culture, and food into one seamless experience. If you're deciding whether to book this tour, do not hesitate! It's the kind of day that stays with you long after the trip is over. It'd do it again in a heartbeat!
Naxos Hiking Tour Review We had a kayaking tour scheduled with the company, but had to cancel due to winds and safety. They offered us some other tour options or just a refund. We picked another tour, which was amazing! Tour we did was "A Riverbank Adventure Kinidaros - Eggares villages)" We hiked from one village to another village. Hiking through hidden oasis of lush ravines, streams, lagoons, abandoned watermills. Visited an Olive Press Museum and got to taste all kinds of olives and products AND enioy a traditional meal at the end of the day (all included in price as well as pick up and drop off at your accommodations)! We loved our guide he was amazing and very knowledgeable about different plants frequently offering different local fruits and herbs to test, had lots to share regarding the area, village, and history both from Mythology to just general island history. The hike was at a good pace, and he will adjust speed as needed. We absolutely loved doing this hike and getting to experience the villages and inner island. He also took photos which get sent out to you in link to download; takes about 5 days. Highly recommended!
As a Naxian, I thought I knew my island well—but this tour proved me wrong in the best possible way. After having an amazing Sea Kayak experience in Apollonas with Trekking Hellas Naxos, I decided to join the Riverbank adventure Hiking Tour as well, and once again I was impressed. We discovered beautiful riverbanks, natural pools, lush vegetation, and wildlife that I had never encountered before. It was hard to believe that such landscapes exist on an island I thought I knew so well. One of the highlights of the tour was stopping at Stella’s, where I had some of the most delicious homemade ‘’giouvarlakia’’ I’ve ever tasted. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience authentic Naxian hospitality and local cuisine. What I loved most about this tour was how it revealed a completely different side of Naxos—one that is green, peaceful, full of history, and surprisingly wild. The scenery was breathtaking and left me genuinely speechless at times. I highly recommend both the Riverbank Hiking Tour and the Sea Kayak experience in Apollonas. Trekking Hellas Naxos offers unique experiences that allow you to discover the authentic heart of the island, whether by land or by sea.
We decided to take the river tour after our sea kayaking trip was canceled because of gusty weather on the coast. It was an incredible replacement. Nick was our guide, and he had that kind of mellow and yet knowledgable vibe that was just the right fit for us -- mellow because he allowed for silence to absorb the surroundings and knowledgable because he integrated mythology, geology, history, geography, and facts about plants and animals into our discussions. The olive pressing talk and oil tasting at the end were fun, and the lunch with local dishes was really nice. The hike itself wasn't too strenuous, but we had a cloudy, cool day. Much of the hike was downhill, so watch your knees and use the hiking poles. If the weather is hot, a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water!
A unique opportunity to explore the stunning inland of the island of Naxos, while learning about the unique botany and ecosystems of the area. Our guide was passionate about the island and its flora and fauna and we felt like we had a unique opportunity to explore different habitats.
My husband and I were the only guests on the tour with our guide, Nektarios. We had a wonderful time. The hike was a little longer (about 5 miles) and more technical (mostly downhill, thankfully, but some uneven terrain) than we'd expected - definitely wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water - especially in the hotter months (it was hot enough in May!). There are no toilets between the start and finish, so keep that in mind, as well. We stopped midway in a relatively wooded area for a story and snack, so you could do your business in privacy there if needed. Our guide was super knowledgeable and shared a lot of really interesting information about the area's history, mythology, and geography/nature. He was also extremely patient with us - I take a lot of photos and that definitely slowed us down. The views along the entire hike were really scenic - especially early on/near the top, when you could see the ocean. The olive oil company at the end was interesting and we got to sample some of their products, before having a really tasty lunch. Overall, this was one of my favorite activities on our two-week trip to the Mediterranean.
We thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful 4 hour hike and lunch at a local tavern in the rural area of Naxos. Can’t say enough about our guide, David, who was both knowledgeable and passionate about the history and nature of Naxos. All in all a great experience!
Incredibly beautiful hike with knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating guide. Relevant and interesting information was shared along the way. It was highly enjoyable all around!
Great tour and very well organised. David, Anastasia and team were great. The whole walk is well off the beaten tourist track. Also great to visit the Olive Oil museum and local taverna at the end. I originally booked the canoe trip but due to high winds this was cancelled and pleased that I booked this instead. Excellent communication and very responsive to emails. Thanks again.
4+ mile walk through nature and mountains ending in a adorable little village. Olive oil store was nice - staff was amazing. Our tour guide David was amazing as well and shared many facts about Naxos and the islands history.
