Excellent experience from start to finish. Our guide and driver collected us from the pick up point and then took us to the canoe launch area in a comfortable minibus. Our guide Hannah gave an overview of what to expect, briefed us on how to use different paddle strokes and then gave us buoyancy aids, gloves and waterproof jackets (it was raining). Once on our trip we did a little but of paddling on the lake until we could enter the lagoon to practice the different paddle strokes, very useful for the challenged to come. Once our guide was happy with our proficiency we set off along the small river trails, through spectacular lily pads and reeds, over a small portage weir, through some beaver dams which felt like little rapids, but nothing too challenging or dangerous, then we twisted and turned onwards as the river path meandered and we were able to see ducks, geese, paths where land dwelling animals came for drinks and feel at one with nature. After about 2 hours of paddling we then met Andy our driver who had a warm van and blankets ready for us in case we were cold. Hannah and Andy put the canoes on to the trailer and took us back to Whistler Village. The hole experience was magical, fun, good exercise and we would definitely do it again.
Best experience everrrr! Charlotte was a wonderful guide. My son has a disability so he paddled in the canoe with her. They're both the same age (20s) and he had the best time. This meant I had my own kayak and it was the 2-hour workout I needed! I'm sure I could have rented my own kayak for a lot less, but I wouldn't have had the confidence to know where to go or had the pick up af the end of the stream. So it's worth the $. Thank you Jim + Charlotte. We felt in very safe and energetic hands! Appreciated!
My husband and I went on the River of Dreams Canoe Tour 6/15/2026. We were staying in the Whistler Village, so just walked to their store in the Village and were taken by van to the lake. We had an exceptional time mostly due to our guides, Marcus and JT. They provided clear, detailed insight about what to expect on the trip, ensured we were safe with life jackets, etc. We had limited prior canoeing experience and after several minutes in the lake area they offered to split us up and each of them ride with one of us. Their patience and excellent quick coaching allowed us to have an amazing trip on the river, all the while they provided insights on the beautiful scenery, the river, wildlife, etc. When the canoe trip was finished they had a van waiting, and dropped us off at our hotel. Highly recommend!
Our guide was Hannah. We had an awesome time. Lots of fun and great views. Saw lots of wildlife and close encounter with black bear. Amazing
We are seniors who have never canoed. This adventure is fantastic. The guides were knowledgeable and put everyone to ease. (Four pair of guests.) Highly recommend.
Beautiful views and excellent guides River perfect for canoes or kayaks Our guides Scott and Hannah were great teachers and very patient and helpful
Very cool trip. Nice and easy for all skill levels. Hannah and Scott were our guides and they were excellent. We started on the beautiful Alta lake, paddled into a little cove and spent 20 minutes learning some Canadian paddle tricks then it was out to the river. And what a fun little river. The time flew by as we navigated through amazing scenery and beautiful crystal clear water. Definitely a must do if youre near Whistler for an afternoon.
We had a fabulous morning canoeing along the river from lake Alta . Our guide Tom took us to a small lagoon and showed us the strokes we would need to use and gave us a few tips of what not to do to avoid capsizing. The first part of the river meandered slowly and was so pretty with lots of yellow flowers on the water. Then where weather river joined a melt water flow it becomes a bit faster wider and colder. We saw lots of bird life along the way and had the most wonderful time. Would definitely recommend doing this tour.
We booked the canoe tour the day before the activity and everything was so straight forward. Our guides Ilona and Sasha were so welcoming and knowable. We had an amazing time cruising across the lake and down some beautiful stretches of the river. We had the maximum group size and there were only 4 canoes, so it wasn’t overcrowded at all. We would absolutely do this (and book with Canadian Wilderness Adventures) again!
It was an overcast and cold morning. Maybe 2 degrees Celsius. Prime adventure weather. Friendly staff at the booking office and a really nice team for the transfer and guided canoe tour. Georgia was lovely, patient and knowledgeable. I could ask for no more. We had about 10 knot winds on the lake first with small white caps. Set the scene...very exciting. But entering the almost hidden river (stream?) was pure seclusion and peacfull-ness (my word, not necessarily yours). Some great bird and fish sightings too. Oh, the serenity. To quote an Australian legend. I say do it! I should also mention that the river is frick'n gorgeous. Which was the whole point.
