This tour was a great experience with my family, our guide Nicholas offered a depth of history and behind the scenes information on Rethymno and its rich past. No details were sparred, there was even a moment of impromptu singing with a local musician. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
Dear Jesse, Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for your kind words. It was a real pleasure meeting you and your lovely family. I'm delighted to hear that you enjoyed discovering the history and hidden stories of Rethymno together. One of my greatest joys is sharing not only the town's rich past, but also its living traditions, so I'm especially happy that the spontaneous moment of Cretan music became such a memorable part of your experience. Your recommendation truly means a great deal to me. I hope the memories of your time in Crete will stay with you for many years, and I would be delighted to welcome you and your family back whenever your travels bring you to our island again. With my warmest regards, Nicholas
We didn’t have much time to spend in this beautiful city so we wanted to see all the important sights in the time we had. This was a perfect tour for that. Our guide, a respected local and highly experienced guide, told us fascinating stories as we walked to the important sites, answered all of our questions, and introduced to tastes and sounds of the city which was even better than the tour description. My favorite was listening to his friend and shop owner Nicolas play the Cretan Lyra. I also enjoyed visiting a shop and seeing how several Greek sweets have been made over time. The history was rich and so was the Baklava. Overall, a great experience. I wish we had more time to spend in this beautiful city.
Dear Athena . Thank you very much for your wonderful review. It was a pleasure showing you around Rethymnon and sharing its history, culture, and local traditions. I’m especially happy that you enjoyed the authentic experiences, from the music of the Cretan lyra to the traditional Greek sweets. Comments like yours make my work truly rewarding. Thank you again for choosing my tour. I hope to welcome you back to Crete one day and share you even more of our beautiful island!. Nicholas

Dear Daisy Thank you very much for your kind review! It was a real pleasure meeting you all and sharing the beauty, history, and culture of Rethymno with your nice family. We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Nicholas on a private walking tour of the Old Harbor in Rethymno, Crete. As a local who grew up in the area, Nicholas brought the history, culture, and traditions of Rethymno to life through his personal stories and firsthand experiences. What made this tour especially memorable was how connected Nicholas is to the community. Along the way, we met local bakers, shop owners, and musicians, giving us an authentic glimpse into everyday life in Crete. His relationships with the people we encountered added a special dimension that you simply can’t get from a guidebook. The Old Harbor is already a charming and beautiful place, but Nicholas added warmth, personality, and context that made it unforgettable. We left with a much deeper appreciation for the history and culture of the area, along with many wonderful stories we’ll remember for years to come. If you’re visiting Rethymno and want a genuine local experience, we highly recommend Nicholas. This was one of the highlights of our time in Crete.

They are an important part of Rethymno's character, and I always try to help visitors experience the authentic spirit of Crete through these personal connections. Thank you again for allowing me to be part of your journey and for taking the time to share your experience with future travelers. Your thoughtful review is greatly appreciated. I hope that the memories of Rethymno and Crete stay with you for many years, and I would be delighted to welcome you back whenever your travels bring you to our island again. This was such a pleasant walk. Private and unhurried, Nikas took us through the old town but did not stop there with his knowledge. Any questions we had he answered and more. We gained a better understanding of the history of Crete, its cultural and religious differences and much of how his own history is related to the entire history of the island. He knew many people as we walked down we had a private song and a behind the scenes look at the making of phyllo dough. He connected the changes of architecture to what we saw and even how it affects the real estate market today. And he speaks six languages! Truly a special day!
Dear Deirdre, Thank you so much for your incredibly thoughtful and generous review. It was truly a pleasure to spend this special day together exploring the Old Town of Rethymno and sharing with you not only the history of the city, but also the living traditions, culture, architecture, music, and everyday life of Crete. I am especially happy that you appreciated the more personal and authentic moments of the tour — from the local connections and music to the behind-the-scenes experience of traditional phyllo making. For me, these experiences help visitors discover the true soul of Crete beyond the typical tourist experience. Your kind words about the storytelling and the broader discussions regarding Cretan history, religion, architecture, and even modern real estate life mean a great deal to me. I always try to create a tour that feels personal, relaxed, meaningful, and rich in authentic local insight. Thank you again for your warmth, curiosity, and wonderful company throughout the day. I sincerely hope to welcome you back to Crete again in the future for even more memorable experiences together. Warmest regards, Nikolaos

We had an absolutely wonderful tour around the city, and the biggest reason was the guide – such a genuinely warm and kind person.
Dear Fort, Thank you so much for your kind words. It was truly a pleasure having you here, and I would be delighted to be of service again anytime you or your friends return to Crete. Please give my warm regards to everyone in your group. Best wishes,
We met our guide, Nikos, in the lovely town of Rethymno, and from the very beginning, we knew we were in good hands. Even before the tour started, communication was clear, friendly, and professional, which set a great tone for what turned out to be an unforgettable experience. From the moment the tour started, Nikos impressed us with his warmth, humor, and deep knowledge of the town he clearly loves. He’s a true local, and it shows-not just in the places he brought us to, including some off-the-beaten-path gems, but in the way he shared stories, traditions, and history in such an engaging, thoughtful way. What really stood out was how well he worked with our group. He struck the perfect balance between storytelling, historical context, and answering questions. The tour felt personal and relaxed, but also rich with insight. One especially memorable moment was when he gave us a chance to hear traditional Cretan music and songs - something we never expected but deeply appreciated. He also offered excellent dining tips, which ended our day on a high note. If you have the chance to tour with Nikos, don’t hesitate. He’s one of those guides who doesn’t just show you a place - he helps you feel it.
Thank you so much for your kind words — they truly mean a lot to me. Please convey my warmest regards to everyone in your group. Wishing you all the very best! Warm regards, Nicholas
