Prima della Seconda Guerra Mondiale non esisteva la Stazione Centrale, ma c'erano quattro stazioni intorno al centro. Nel 1957 fu aperta la stazione centrale nella sede attuale. Nel 2004 è stata avviata una totale ristrutturazione della stazione centrale, nel 2014 è stato consegnato l'attuale risultato finale. La vecchia stazione non poteva più far fronte all'afflusso di passeggeri.
Nel 2011, il comune di Rotterdam ha organizzato la prima iniziativa cittadina, uno strumento amministrativo per stimolare l'innovazione amministrativa e la partecipazione dei cittadini. Gli abitanti di Rotterdam sono stati chiamati a presentare progetti che avrebbero ravvivato la città e migliorato la qualità della vita in città. Dall'iniziativa cittadina è stato stanziato un importo di 4 milioni per la realizzazione del progetto.
Nel Medioevo, una delle 10 porte della città che Rotterdam aveva qui. Negli anni '30, la città di Rotterdam è cresciuta rapidamente e il cancello si è frapposto, poiché si desiderava un flusso migliore per il traffico in aumento. Si decise di spostare il cancello di circa 100 metri (una demolizione del cancello incontrò molta resistenza). Durante i bombardamenti della seconda guerra mondiale la porta fu gravemente danneggiata, un anno dopo il bombardamento la porta fu demolita, perché non poteva più essere terminata. Alcune opere ornamentali dell'antica porta furono salvate e inglobate nelle murature degli edifici all'angolo con la piazza del municipio.
Il municipio fu costruito tra il 1914 e il 1920 (da Henri Evers) ed è uno dei pochi edifici del centro di Rotterdam sopravvissuti al bombardamento del 14 maggio 1940.
Attualmente, il meent è uno degli hotspot di Rotterdam. Ci sono molti caffè, ristoranti e negozi di abbigliamento. Negli anni '90, il centro era una strada dove si trovavano principalmente lavoro temporaneo e agenzie di viaggio, il centro era una strada senza atmosfera con molti posti vacanti. Robin von Weiler non è estraneo a Rotterdam. Deve il suo soprannome Mr. Meent a tutto quello che ha fatto e fa ancora per questa strada.
La laurenskerk è l'unico residuo del centro medievale di Rotterdam. La laurenskerk è un incrocio tra una chiesa a sala (tutti gli edifici sono uguali in altezza) e una basilica cruciforme (qui le torri laterali sono più basse della torre principale). La chiesa fu costruita tra il 1449 e il 1525.

Negli anni '70 del XX secolo, gli architetti volevano creare aree residenziali ospitali con la partecipazione dei residenti e di altri utenti in risposta al modernismo su larga scala e grigio dell'architettura della ricostruzione dopo la seconda guerra mondiale. Piet Blom, strutturalista e adepto di Aldo van Eyck, supponeva che gli edifici di grandi dimensioni dovessero essere costruiti a misura di persone costruendoli a partire da elementi riconoscibili di piccola scala. L'idea di base, che l'edificio sia costruito su colonne, in modo che lo spazio sotto gli edifici possa rimanere pubblico, si ispira a Le Corbusier

We had to cancel at the very last minute...we had double booked ourselves. The operator was very kind and offered a ride next time we're in town We didnt request a refund of course.

This was a wonderful tour. As we had already visited Rotterdam on another vacation, we wanted to see and hear about some different and unusual sights. Our guide surely made that happen. He told us many interesting stories and we were very pleased with this tour! P.S. He did take a picture of us and promised to text it to us but I have not received it yet. I forget his name but he is studying medicine at the University and we would love to have the picture

Izzy was a great tour guide. This was our first visit to Rotterdam. Izzy reached out to me after booking to see what we wanted to see on our tour. We were supposed to take this tour (and had paid), but 15 minutes before the tour, they called and wanted to delay it by 30 minutes due to a summer festival (we booked this months ago and the summer festival was something planned for months that they knew was occurring). Since it was afternoon, we could not delay, as we were on a cruise ship. We were willing to go late, but they said they could not guarantee we would be back by the time we needed to return to the ship. I asked if they could refund the money; they stated that we would have to check with customer service. They asked what we wanted to do; we said we would have to cancel if they could not guarantee we would be back on time. Now, they are saying we lied, that they did offer the original time (they did not - my husband heard the conversation), and the person I was talking with refuses to refund our money (over $150 - there was no other "customer service" person). I would not trust booking with them again, which is too bad since we will be back again in a few months.

However, we do need to correct several statements in your review which are not true.. The proposed 2:30 PM start was presented as an option, not as the only available pickup time. Once you explained that you needed to return to your cruise ship by approximately 3:00–3:15 PM, we immediately offered to keep the original 2:00 PM meeting time and shorten the tour so you could return within your preferred timeframe. We also explained that, as a responsible operator, we could never guarantee an exact return time due to circumstances outside anyone's control, such as traffic or unexpected congestion. After discussing the option together, you decided to cancel the tour. At no point did we refuse to operate it. Regarding the festival, this was precisely why we contacted you before the tour; to communicate the situation and work with you on the best solution. Our goal was to make the tour possible despite the circumstances. We're disappointed that our recollection of the conversation differs so significantly, but we stand by the facts and the efforts we made to accommodate your schedule. Very relaxed, fun & interesting covering a relatively small area of central Rotterdam. Someone younger than I am might have enjoyed doing it as a walking tour. Guide Izzy was fun and informative.
