Our trip to Dendera Temple Complex was absolutely unforgettable—and truly a must-do excursion if you’re staying in Luxor. While it’s about an hour drive each way, it is 100% worth dedicating the time. Dendera is incredibly well-preserved compared to many other sites, and you can really feel the history in a way that’s hard to describe until you experience it. What makes this temple so special is not just its beauty, but how immersive it is—you’re able to explore deeper, see more vibrant carvings, and even access areas like the catacombs and rooftop, which offer a completely different perspective. Standing on the roof and looking out over the surrounding landscape adds a whole new layer to understanding its significance. A huge part of what made the day so meaningful was our guide, Mansuor Hamed. The hour-long drive flew by thanks to his storytelling, and he gave us a true in-depth understanding of not just Dendera itself, but how it fits into the broader picture of ancient Egyptian history. If you’re debating whether to make the trip from Luxor—do it. It’s one of those experiences that goes beyond just seeing a temple; it’s something you’ll remember long after your trip ends.

Dedicated to the goddess Hathor, the cow goddess, it is unfortunately one of the least visited temples in the great Egyptian circuit. It is a shame because it is quite well preserved not only structurally but also in terms of the preservation of the colors of the decorative paintings. Here, one gets an idea of what an explosion of colors a temple from that era must have been. We are used to seeing and appreciating the bas-reliefs carved on columns and walls, but we lack the perception of their incredible chromaticity. On the outer rear wall, there is the figure of Cleopatra VII (…. yes, that one!!!) along with her son Caesarion, whom she had with Julius Caesar, which we also find in a crypt accessible only by crawling through a rather narrow passage, unsuitable for those who suffer from claustrophobia. Do not miss the recessed staircase carved into the outer walls, decorated with bas-reliefs of priests ascending or descending depending on the direction of travel.

We had a great visit to Dendera temple, the best-preserved in all of Egypt. Our driver Ali and our guide Hany Yassen were very professional. The tour started on time, the guide explained all the important parts of the temple and the surrounding area. It took us just 45 minutes of driving from Luxor, we highly recommend this tour.

Hathor Temple was truly the best. It was the best of my trips to Luxor this time. The murals and ceiling paintings are well-preserved and beautiful, and the design is really interesting. It's the best ruins I've ever seen! I think you can enjoy it even more by studying the Egyptian gods. The underground bulb mural is extra. It is better to buy tickets at the first ticket office. It's inconvenient to buy locally only from a smartphone. The drivers were the worst on this tour. Smoking in a car while driving. When I tell him to stop, he says try! and keeps smoking. Why can't I stand it when it's an hour each way? He even insisted on going to the restaurant he introduced, but he refused. I didn't want to tip him anymore, but when I gave him a small tip, he told me to drop him off at the ATM because he wasn't enough. When he refused that, he took the liberty of ordering a sandwich at our restaurant. Fortunately, the restaurant asked us if we would pay for the driver's sandwich, so we declined. I was really the worst and worst driver to go out of my way to sign up for a TripAdvisor tour to stay out of trouble.
