Rainforest Discovery Center si è evoluto dal piccolo centro di educazione ambientale (EE) nel 1996 in uno dei centri EE più popolari di Sabah.

Itinerario
La nostra guida turistica ti verrà a prendere intorno alle 8 del mattino dal tuo hotel o aeroporto. Dirigiti alla prima fermata al centro di riabilitazione di Sepilok Orang Utan. Fu istituito nel 1964 per restituire "scimmie allo stato brado" orfane. Il centro era amministrato dalla sezione faunistica del Dipartimento forestale che nel 1988 è stata ammodernata come dipartimento del Ministero del turismo e dello sviluppo ambientale. Tutta l'amministrazione e la gestione sono state affidate al nuovo dipartimento faunistico di Sabah. Alle 10:00, prosegui per la piattaforma B, osserva il parente più vicino dell'uomo mentre gli Orang Utans vengono riabilitati per diventare selvaggi nel loro habitat naturale e sperimentare una passeggiata nella Foresta Dipterous del Borneo in pianura tropicale e successivamente guardare un video documentario programmato di 25 minuti .
Passa poi al Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, promuovi la conservazione dell'orso solare nel Borneo attraverso il benessere, la conservazione, la riabilitazione, l'educazione e la ricerca degli animali: dare agli orsi catturati una casa migliore e ripristinare il loro diritto di vivere allo stato brado, creando una capacità confiscare, riabilitare e rilasciare orsi orfani ed ex-prigionieri idonei in libertà e fornire un ambiente di vita a lungo termine migliorato per gli orsi in cattività che non possono essere rilasciati. Educare il pubblico e sensibilizzare su questa specie. Ottenere una maggiore protezione per gli orsi del sole e il loro habitat attraverso la ricerca continua, una maggiore conoscenza e consapevolezza e un'ulteriore protezione dell'habitat. Infine, visita al centro di scoperta della foresta pluviale. È la porta per conoscere l'unicità e l'importanza delle foreste pluviali del Borneo. Situato a 23 chilometri dalla città di Sandakan e non troppo lontano dal centro di riabilitazione di Sepilok, i punti salienti del RDC sono le sue sale espositive, il Plant Discovery Garden, la riserva forestale Kabili-Sepilok, i programmi di educazione ambientale e un piccolo lago per gite in barca. L'RDC offre anche ai visitatori la possibilità di entrare in intimità con la natura attraverso il suo programma Nature Experience che include una passeggiata guidata al Plant Discovery Garden, Rainforest Walk e attività indoor / outdoor. Dopo aver terminato la visita sopra menzionata, ti lasceremo all'aeroporto di Sandakan o al tuo rispettivo hotel (solo area della città).

Driver was on time and despite some late communication looked after us very well. 40 minute drive, long lines to get in, storage lockers available. Taking a camera cost 10 ringett, no water bottles etc allowed in, phones allowed. Orangutan centre so clean and pristine. Observed nursery and then normal platform. There had been no orang-utans the day before, we had 7 including a baby. Wonderful. One walked past us on the wooden trail. Only disappointment was that there were too many people and the ones at the front of the viewing platforms stayed put the whole time instead of moving away and letting others get a good view. Would suggest some type of timed walkway in front, maybe 5 minutes, and rotate. Into sunbears centre, again lovely. Looking down on them so could only see their backs. Luckily one climbed a tree in front of us and we got a good view. Several Chinese Itourists had food bundles to throw down to the bears. Unfortunately 2 of them threw them directly on the bears head and thought it was funny. No staff accompanied them or told them off. We then went to the Rainforest Discovery Centre and wandered the beautiful grounds. Great views from the canopy tree tower and suspension bridge. There was a little more rubbish here. We had a great lunch in town. Thoroughly enjoyable day. For of us provided a rating out of 10 - 9.5, 9, 9 and 8. Recommended.
Our Driver was very friendly. The 3 activities were very good. RDC was our favourite! 🐒🦧 But to be honest, just book a Grab or Taxi. Our driver did nothing else than driving us, he waited outside and paid our entrance fee and food. Save your money…
Ruined the trip of a lifetime, I had arranged flights from Kota Kinabalu at 06:45 in the morning, meaning a very early start for my family including my 3 kids. Just past midnight, 6 hours before our flight time, the tour operator cancelled our tour. No way to contact them, even though I had paid fully in advance and booked the trip over 2 weeks in advance. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS.
We had a lovely time and our driver was very helpful getting us there on time and purchasing our tickets, but honestly it would have been much more cost effective to get a Grab for the day and buy our own tickets and lunch.
We had the pleasure of having Siti as our guide on the tour. Our driver Ahmed was very friendly and picked us up from our hotel at the stated time. He then picked up Siti and from the moment we met her she was friendly, informative and a pleasure to be around. I really enjoyed chatting to her as we walked around the Ornagutan rescue, the sun bear sanctuary and the rainforest discovery centre. She also told us useful information and interesting facts. She wasn’t too overbearing and knew when to just let us chat amongst ourselves. By the end of the day we all felt very glad that we’d met her! Would definitely recommend both Siti and Ahmed, together the dream team! And of course seeing the animals and especially the orangutans close up was incredible.
We had the most amazing & knowledgable tour guide & a wonderful driver. We enjoyed our time with them. We could not have asked for better. City (guide) & Georgia (driver).

We tried to contact them prior to confirm the pickup location but they did not respond . We even contacted Viator who also could not get in contact with them. On the day we waited for them to pick us up but no one came. We then contacted Viator and filed a complaint. After the complaint they finally got back to us and basically lied by saying they were waiting for us at the hotel.
Amazing tour got to see lots of wildlife with an awesome guide and driver Sitti and JaJa, Cannot recommend enough, lunch was fantastic also, a must do tour if you come to Sandakan
