If you are travelling with children in Rotorua, the Polynesian Spa Family Pool is a must-visit. The setup is super practical for families: kids can burn energy on the hydro slide and swimming area while parents relax in the soothing geothermal mineral pools. The temperature of the pools is perfect, and having active lifeguard supervision made the entire experience stress-free. Everything you need is right there, including helpful amenities, swim gear hire, and a great café for snacks afterwards. A wonderful, relaxing experience that everyone enjoyed immensely!
Thank you for sharing your experience. Our Family Pools are designed to give families a place where children can enjoy the swimming areas and hydro slide while adults can make the most of our geothermal mineral pools. It’s also good to know the lifeguard supervision and onsite facilities helped make your visit easy and enjoyable. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome the family back again.
We were annoyed that the price quoted were in US$ and not NZ dollars. The place is ok but I think it is over priced.
Thank you for your feedback. To clarify, Polynesian Spa does not charge in US dollars. Bookings made via this platform with us are priced and charged in New Zealand dollars (NZD). As your booking was made through Viator, the currency displayed and the amount charged are determined by their platform and your selected currency settings. We understand how this could be frustrating if the currency was not clear when you booked. We appreciate you taking the time to visit Polynesian Spa and share your feedback.
We booked a 3pm swim and were asked to wait for between 20 mins and an hour to be allowed entry. This was not possible due to arriving with a 3 and 1 year old. Requested a refund.
Thank you for your feedback. Our Family Pools can reach capacity during busy periods, and while Viator requires a booking time to process availability, this does not guarantee immediate entry. We advise at the time of booking that waits may apply when the pools are at capacity. We appreciate that waiting with a three-year-old and one-year-old was not practical for your family. Your refund request will be managed through Viator, as the booking and payment were made through their platform.
Please be ware!! Tripvisor is very misleading and charges you out at USD which is basically double the price. You think you are getting a decent deal then realize you have been charged almost doubled for the experience. Which defeats the purpose of booking through here thinking you are saving money.
Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that Polynesian Spa does not charge in US dollars. Our direct pricing and transactions are in New Zealand dollars (NZD). As this booking was made through Tripadvisor/Viator, the currency displayed and charged is determined by their platform and the currency selected during the booking process. Any currency conversion or difference in the final amount is therefore not a charge applied by Polynesian Spa. We understand the frustration this caused and recommend checking the displayed currency carefully when booking through third-party platforms.
As a local living in Rotorua, I was totally disgusted with the price being charged $80 USD and put in a complaint to the facility. They told me this was NOT part of their website and apologized. I sent an email to Tripadvisor.com asking for a full refund. I'd rather the entire $$ went to our local economy without overseas third parties. The Polynesian pools are beautiful and always enjoyed my visits paying in person.

Had to wait even though we were late arriving ,pool for adults good but pity not a ledge around to sit on as quite hard to get up when you are not so agile.Nice and relaxing
hank you for your review. We're pleased to hear you found the pools relaxing and enjoyed your visit. Thank you also for your feedback regarding seating. The family pool is designed as a swimming and play pool for families and children, whereas our two smaller Rachel Spring alkaline pools are intended as more traditional geothermal soaking pools with seating for relaxation. We appreciate your comments and hope to welcome you back again soon.
Great price nearly half price through TripAdvisor I’m using this portal from now to do my bookings. spa family pools were all busy so I had to sit around for 45 minutes. Long waiting time. Need more life guards
We're pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit and felt it offered good value. At busy times, particularly during peak holiday periods, there can occasionally be a short wait before entering some areas of the complex. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these times. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We hope to welcome you back for another visit soon.
The family side is too small. There's very little seating for families to sit and eat while there. There should be the option to be able to bring your own food in as it's already pretty expensive to swim there. The facilities need updating and better cleaning services. I visited other areas of this facility and it shows that there's more energy and money put into these areas over the family side.
Thanks for sharing your feedback. The Family Pools area includes tables and chairs for families to relax and enjoy time between swims, although we understand the space can feel busy at peak times. Cleaning and water quality checks are carried out daily across all areas of the facility, including the Family Pools. The Family Pools are also part of our regular upkeep programme, with planned maintenance scheduled for the two geothermal pools in June. As part of a historic site, this area dates back to some of the original bathhouses and was formerly the original men’s bathing area, which remains an important part of the character and history of Polynesian Spa today. We appreciate you taking the time to share your observations following your visit.
General good experience but cost more then expected as it was in US dollars and not New Zealand. That needs to be advertised.
Thanks for your feedback. We’re pleased you had a good overall experience with us. Our pricing is listed in NZD across our own channels, however some international booking platforms may display alternative currencies based on a guest’s location or account settings. We understand how this could be unexpected and appreciate you raising it.
It was a lovely experience for our family. The kids really enjoyed it, and we ended up staying for about two hours. The facilities were clean, which we appreciated. That said, we did feel the admission fee was a bit on the higher side, considering the main activity is swimming, with one slide for the kids 😅. We understand that maintaining the place comes with costs, though. For reference, we paid 183.17NZD for 4 adults and 3 kids. The atmosphere was decent, and the crowd size was actually great — when we arrived, it was just one other family, so it felt relaxed and not overcrowded. The staff were fine — present and doing their job 😊 Overall, it’s a good option for a cloudy or rainy day, or if you’re looking to pass time while waiting to check in somewhere.
Thanks for sharing this, it’s great to hear your family had a relaxed visit and that the kids enjoyed their time in the pools. A quieter arrival can really change the feel of the place, so it’s nice that you were able to settle in without the crowds. We appreciate your comments on pricing as well, and understand how that can feel depending on expectations.
