Feel like a VIP at this secluded waterfall

Beautiful location. Such a special place. We arrived a bit early and we're still permitted to enter. Best way to experience a waterfall! I would definitely recommend and do this again! Easy to access!

Horrible customer service!!!

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! We had scheduled this tour in advance (4 women). I injured my knee before hand and didn't think I could make the climb down to the falls. I called to cancel 2 days in advance. I was told the agent was new and would talk to her manager and get back to me... never did. I called again the next day and was told since I didn't cancel 72 hours in advance...no refund. I paid $340 dollars for this, so I called that morning to see if there was a place at the top that I could wait while my daughters did the waterfall. They assured me there was a lounge. I asked if there were soft drinks available there (It was a very hot day). They said there was a vending machine, but couldn't tell me whether or not it would be stocked. We arrived at the gate (speaker only) and waited a long time for someone to answer. No one said anything at that time that they weren't doing the swim that day due to the weather (It was VERY LIGHTLY raining). When we got to the check-in office, we were told there was no swimming today, NO REFUND, but we would be given a $25 coupon per person to be used another day. The tickets cost was $70 pp ++ for a total of $340 dollars. So we would have had to pay an additional $240 to come back and do the activity we had already paid for! In any case we were leaving the next day. NO ACCOMODATION was made, so I was just out $340!

We are very sorry to hear about your knee injury prior to your visit, and we completely understand how frustrating it is when travel plans do not go exactly as expected. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and would like to provide some clarity on our policies regarding your visit to Kulaniapia Falls. Cancellation Policy: When booking for larger groups, guests explicitly acknowledge our 72-hour cancellation policy during the checkout process. Because your initial call was made two days (48 hours) prior to your visit, it was unfortunately already past the cancellation window. While we sincerely apologize that our newer agent did not follow up with you as promised, the policy was already firmly in effect at the time of your first call. Gate Access: To prevent backups and wait times at the gate, we send all guests a text message a few days before arrival requesting they complete their online waivers. Completing this in advance automatically provides the gate code for seamless entry. The call button is available as a backup for guests who have not completed their waivers, though it can sometimes result in a wait if our team is actively assisting other guests on the property. Lounge and Facilities: We are glad you were able to wait for your daughters at the top. Our main lanai is a very popular place for guests to relax, hang out, and enjoy the beautiful views, and drinks were indeed available for you there. Swimming and River Safety: Guest safety is our absolute top priority. We do not sell "swimming passes"; we sell day passes to access the trails and enjoy the property. Swimming is offered completely free of charge, but only when river safety conditions permit. This decision is dictated by the volume and flow of water in the river, which can be highly dangerous even if it is only "very lightly raining" locally - it depends more on rain up mountain in the preceding days. Booking Expectations: Because river conditions are out of our control, guests explicitly acknowledge at booking that swimming is not guaranteed. We provide real-time river safety conditions on our website and actively encourage guests to check those conditions and book on the day of their visit if they will be disappointed if swimming is not possible. While we understand you and your daughters were disappointed by the river conditions that day, many guests deeply enjoy the property without ever intending to swim. Because your passes are for property access—and swimming is a free, condition-dependent, optional activity—refunds for property access are not issued for unsafe river conditions. We offered the $25 coupon per person as a courtesy for a future visit, and would have happily rescheduled you for another day if your plans allowed. We wish you a speedy recovery with your knee and thank you for your time in providing your feedback.

Stunning!

Absolutely stunning place to visit! The falls are beautiful. The grounds immaculately maintained. Just beautiful. I wish I had planned my day better so I could have spent more time there! They even had a clean shower to rinse off in after I swam. The day pass cost is well worth it! Only notes-the road getting to the facility is very narrow and curvy and the trails are a little steep and can be slippery. Totally worth all of it though!

Over priced for the experience.

The ad was deceiving. Not anything like I was led to believs.

To other potential guests, we encourage you to read our listing and reviews. We try hard to accurately describe the experience, and are proud to be rated as the top rated destination in Hilo.

Know what you are getting into

As others have shared, this requires a very expensive entry fee for what you get. If you are doing a day pass, you cannot enter the property until you pay at the gate. It's easy to think you went the wrong way, since the information to enter is on a board vertical to the road. Posted prices are approx $50/person. Actual prices are closer to $70/person. This does not include paddle boards or other water items - they run an additional $27. Pay for them at the desk since the wifi isn't great down by the waterfall. It takes significant time to fill out the endless waivers and ID/passport is required, so be prepared for that. Bringing your own food is recommended as on site meals are expensive. They do have water, coffee, hot chocolate, etc. for free. Monitor conditions because you may not be able to access the waterfall if water flow is high. Calling is recommended if uncertain. Staff may or may not answer the phone - it took 15 min for someone to answer the buzzer to come to the front desk. We almost left. On the day we went in April, it was overcast and the water was cold. Since there is no beach, if you are not swimming or paddle boarding, there isn't much to do for an active family. We had the space for a few minutes alone, which was wonderful. Not so much for the others that arrived after, since spaces to sit are limited on the rocky, muddy banks.

Beautiful property and waterfall!

Beautiful property with limited number of guests. It was a peaceful visit for my family. We swam in the pond and rented a SUP. Wonderful day trip!

Waterfall

Might be the best waterfall on the island.
