I typically do not write reviews HOWEVER I want others to be aware before you book this trip. I booked this trip for my daughter and I as we were visiting Tuxtla Gutiérrez, where she was born, for a few days. I wanted her to experience the true beauty of Chiapas as we were in town celebrating her18th birthday. We both were very excited for the trip that was scheduled on 7/4 and were anxiously awaiting the van to pick us up outside our hotel at 3:15AM as we had confirmed. We were outside our hotel by 3AM and waited until 4AM before deciding to head back inside, obviously disappointed. I tried calling the numbers on the bottom of the confirmation email and they were out of Service, I emailed the company, and I have never heard back. I wanted to reschedule our trip for another day while we were still in Tuxtla or get a full refund, but never received any communication back from the company. I am out $378 US and honestly, just wanted to write this to forewarn others. Hopefully, others have better luck than we did!
Super long bus ride but it is worth the drive for the amazing view of Chiapas!! However, the tour is missing the breakfast that was promised... In addition, even though we paid for english speaking tour, the driver did not know any english at all. We could not communicate with him AT ALL.... We waited for our meal until 5pm when we were brought to a restaurant where we had to pay for our meals. Although the tour at the archeological site is english, all the other part of the tour was in spanish and we had difficulty communicating basic needs to the driver.
The journey they took was very long. 8 hours there and 8 hours back from Tuxtla. The driver kept the speed high even in the rain. I can understand that the day was slightly rainy, however in blue water we spent 20 minutes and in Misol-ha 10 minutes. The breakfast, although very basic, was appetizing. In Palenque the guide is not included (I didn't realize at the time that he gave us tickets to other archaeological sites in the country)
Every Mayan site is magical!! You feel catapulted into another dimension! Palenque is no exception! You are almost incredulous both for the beauty of the place and for the sense of disorientation you feel when you walk among those ruins so well preserved, it really seems like you are in those times! The monuments are set in a forest rich in every plant and animal of every species! Everything is taken care of down to the smallest detail and the street vendors of artisanal products are very careful not to invade the sacred spaces. A beautiful journey through time! The route is not too difficult, except for the sections on the steps of the pyramids, which are rather steep and risky for people who tire easily or have difficulty walking...however, even without climbing the stairs, the landscape that can be admired is a disarming beauty!
Beautiful everything I could see, lacks time to enjoy the places more; we go on tour from San Cristobal de Las Casas and it does not seem very convenient because it is too many hours on the road the same day; maybe it is better to stay one day in Palenque for this tour. In addition, the Enterprise with which we contracted the tour took us to a "tax and low quality" place for breakfast; there the vans of several companies stop and leave us with no choice. Before Palenque the driver stopped with a guide known to him and insisted that we hire his Service, the cost was $350 per person for an hour of guide, so we did not accept; already in Palenque we hired a certified guide for $75.- per person for a tour of hour and a half, was excellent the information he gave us and helped to better use the time we had for the tour. Near the Archaeological Zone there are several places to eat, we could not test because the driver took us to a place he already had selected (again without consulting us) and said both the driver and the Enterprise, that we were not obliged to eat there, but would not stop anywhere else; so it is advisable to talk this with the companies before hiring or going already resigned. However, the beauty of the places covers these ugly details.
Firstly, the driver we had all day, Javier, was really great! He did an amazing job driving for around 16hrs in the heat. Problems we had - We had booked for an English speaking guide for Palenque, but when we arrived they tried to charge us around 2300 MXN for it and said it was not included in the tour price. Additionally when we booked, the tour mentioned that breakfast was included - but it was not. This tour ran from around 3am to 1am the following day - so it’s around 21 hours. It’s a long long way to travel but worth it.
The trip was good. The waterfalls and the archaeological site are great. But I wouldn't do the tour again because the ride is just too long. The vehicle was not comfortable enough for the journey time. What was annoying was that we were told that we would be picked up at 4/4:30am and then picked up at 3:00am in the morning. The ticket stated that an English guide was present in Palenque. That was not the case.
Amazing tour of beautiful places, and although it is somewhat long, it is worth it. There is also enough time at each stop to visit the area. A good point for the great driver who took us.
If you want to go on a badly organized excursion, this is yours. Starting that they made us do a rodeo going to Cristobal to pick up a couple when we all came from Tuxtla, which makes it a few more hours of bus...when it's already a lot! Then, we had breakfast included and that felt terrible in the place we went to breakfast than by the way, the worst breakfast place I have ever been in Mexico. I was at the entrance to the blue-water waterfall, if you can help it, better. The driving is reckless, fast-paced, didn't notice when it had to stop and we flew over the road highlights, you couldn't even sleep... Everyone complained. At 6 a.m. when some of us could sleep he decided to play the music super loud, and then tell us that if we would rather have breakfast in the waterfall than on the way... for that reason leave us asleep... There is no guide, you have to pay it in Palenque and make price. Clearly the agency or the driver takes a percentage of this... often scam. At all times he is a driver, who is good person, but not good at his job. It's clueless, and reckless driving. He forgot to put the handbrake on, got out of the microbus to close doing something and started moving the vehicle and the back running to stop it, while we were inside....a danger. I advise against spending this money on this excursion, find a driver to take you to Palenque and bring you, it will be cheaper and better experience.
The tour was amazing, it's a long way we set off from Tuxtla Gutierrez so they were about 6/7 hours walk but worth it. Palenque was wonderful as were the waterfalls. The person who picked us up was super friendly and very attentive. 100% recommended
