Claudio was very knowledgeable about Roman history, culture and architecture and also the history of the Catholic Church in Rome. He was delightful to listen to and very considerate of our needs and comforts. This day was a definitely a highlight of our trip to Rome, and very worth the cost.
This full-day tour was packed full of history and spirituality, courtesy of the amazing guide Max. Max picked me up in Rome and spent the day driving me to Subiaco and MonteCassino, telling Roman and Benedictine history along the way. His knowledge of and passion for this niche of Christian history was above par. Our conversation was quite enjoyable. He allowed plenty of time for me to explore these two historic Benedictine monasteries at my own pace. For anyone interested in the history or ministry of St. Benedict, I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour experience.
Great day experiencing the beauty and splendor of the Italian landscape and monasteries of St Benedict. Massimo was a brilliant guide who provided context and clarity to the area, ancient Rome and Catholicism. Highly recommend-a great complement to the Rome experience.
I did not expect so much beauty on the side of a mountain jutting out over the Aniene valley, built to remember the "sacro speco", that is, the cave where the saint had stayed in complete solitude for three long years. Wonderful frescoes praising the life of Jesus and Our Lady and the life of the Saint were painted around the cave in the period following his death. A place to visit to appreciate nature outside and art inside, absolutely not to be missed!
Outstanding experience! Massimo was a wealth of knowledge and kept the conversation going for the ride from Rome to Cassino with great facts and insights. Really appreciated the opportunity to hear all the background in between stops.
Max gave our family of 5 from the US a great day! Subiaco and Montecassino are breathtaking places to get away from the hustle and bustle of Rome for a day with Benedict and Scholastica. Max is a wonderful guide and we are glad to have made a new friend in Italy!
Lovely place. Both Emil monasteries in the town of Subiaco are beautiful. The small lake with the waterfall is suggestive. It's a shame that the monastery of Santa Scolastica had a part covered for restoration work, but I had the opportunity to visit two secret caves that are not always open to the public and I was enchanted
