Un viaggio nella storia coloniale della Guyana e nella storia del Magenta da 1 centesimo, il francobollo più raro e costoso del mondo. Il francobollo magenta da un centesimo fu scoperto per la prima volta da uno scolaro di 12 anni, L. Vernon Vaughan, tra alcuni documenti di famiglia nell'edizione del 1856 di The Royal Gazette, Georgetown, nel 1873. Lo ha venduto per sei scellini, apparentemente convinto di poter trovare un esempio di francobollo migliore, ma nessuno l'ha mai fatto. Non era più un semplice francobollo, un elemento usa e getta su un giornale anch'esso usa e getta. Visita il Museo della Guyana e guarda la macchina da stampa originale su cui è stato stampato il francobollo Magenta da 1 centesimo. Visualizza la gamma di francobolli che fanno parte della mostra.
Ci dirigiamo quindi verso il Palazzo del Parlamento, il sito del primo ufficio postale della Guyana e vediamo la cassetta postale originale Questo era l'ufficio postale dove veniva venduto il francobollo Magenta da 1 centesimo
Quindi vai al negozio filatelico nell'ufficio postale di Georgetown e visualizza e magari acquista i francobolli della Guyana e le buste del primo giorno.
Visita il Tortoise Protective Haven dove vagano 12 tartarughe giganti dai piedi gialli e rossi. Le tartarughe presenti nell'edizione 2012 dei francobolli Reptiles of South America.
Quindi si parte per il Giardino Segreto con palme da cocco e gazebo di bambù dove Eon John preparerà un sontuoso pasto a base di piatti tradizionali britannici con un tocco della Guyana che il giovane trovatore del francobollo e suo zio il proprietario originale del magenta da 1 centesimo avrebbero mi è piaciuto Questo consisterà in arrosto di manzo, budino dello Yorkshire, patate arrosto, zucca al forno, Callaloo e sugo. A great insight into Guyana's history and the 1 cent Magenta stamp story. Eon and Jessica were very knowledgeable and friendly. From feeding manatees to eating beef and yorkshire puddings in their Secret Garden it was a very enjoyable day. Well worth booking.

What a fascinating story! Jessica and Eon had researched everything thoroughly and were completely engaging. The tour ended with a delicious meal at their house. Our only regret is that we didn’t take this tour earlier as we would then have booked the cookery experience that they also offer.

This was a very interesting and informative tour. Having a personal connection to the stamp made it even more special. This tour is very well structured from visiting the museum to see the actual press that produced the stamp, to the original post offing where it was initialled. We even got a chance to see the type of newspaper of that period of which the stamp was used to post. The day finished with a traditional meal from those old colonial days, expertly cooked by Eon and Jessica. Great hosts and I learnt so much!

We have just come from the One Cent Magenta Tour and we loved we every minute. A lovely couple bring it all to life and show and tell the story about the world's rarest and most expensive postage stamp which comes from Guyana. Lots of information and little surprises. The food was great and we learned lots. We are so glad we did it. You should do it too, we'll worth the money paid.
