Al Khor è una città costiera nel nord del Qatar, situata a 50 chilometri a nord della capitale, Doha. Al Khor era governato dagli Al Muhannadi, una tribù composta da diverse famiglie beduine. Il porto di Al Khor, il centro del paese per le immersioni e la pesca delle perle ai vecchi tempi. E il cantiere di riparazione e ristrutturazione di vecchie navi.
È strettamente affiliato con Al Khor City, essendo entrambi stati fondati dalla tribù Al Muhannadi. Come altri insediamenti costieri della zona, i suoi abitanti storicamente facevano affidamento esclusivamente sulla perla e sulla pesca per il sostentamento. Insieme ad Al Khor City, circa 1.392 ettari di mangrovie si trovano appena al largo della costa, rendendo la costa tra Al Thakhira e Al Khor City l'habitat di mangrovie più densamente popolato del Qatar. AL THAKIRA MANGROVE FOREST è tra le foreste più antiche e più grandi del Qatar.
Il forte di Al Zubara è una storica fortezza militare del Qatar costruita sotto la supervisione dello sceicco Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani nel 1938. Questo forte del 20° secolo è l'elemento più giovane e più importante del sito archeologico di Al Zubarah, patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO. Un esempio incontaminato di tipico forte arabo, le sue mura spesse un metro hanno respinto gli invasori e hanno contribuito a mantenere le stanze fresche durante il estate calda. Un tempo era abitata dalla famiglia Al Kubaisi, e ad oggi è una destinazione preferita per i fine settimana dalle famiglie locali poiché rappresenta la loro eredità, storia e radici ancestrali. Il villaggio comprende un insieme di importanti edifici tradizionali, tra cui una piccola moschea con il suo minareto ancora intatto. Questo borgo risale ai primi anni del XIX secolo ed era ancora abitato fino alla metà del Novecento.

Brilliant afternoon with Zubair going north from Doha on a boiling summer day. Well planned and organized itinerary, very good vehicle and attentive, knowledgeable and zen guide/driver. Highly recommended if you have some time and want to get out of Doha.
We contacted Qatar International Tours from our hometown (Munich, Germany) by email to arrange a trip through the north of Qatar. Communication was easy, replies were very fast, and we received a great offer, which we paid before traveling. Once in Qatar, we stayed in touch via WhatsApp to organize meeting points and schedules. Everything went smoothly and effortlessly. We were picked up at our hotel in central Qatar and started our tour at 8:30 a.m. Our first stop was Al Khor, where we visited the fish market and went kayaking in the young mangroves that are now growing in Qatar. The boats were safe and family-friendly, making the experience easy and enjoyable for everyone. Our tour guide, Mr. Prakash, knew the best timing, so we went at high tide, which allowed us to see the mangroves’ famous highlights: fish breeding grounds, colorful birds, and more. We had a small hiccup, we forgot our change of clothes at the hotel—but Mr. Prakash took us to a mall so we could buy dry clothes, turning it into a fun little adventure. Lunch at an Arabian restaurant was amazing, so many flavors, and truly delicious! Afterward, we visited the UNESCO World Heritage sites and returned to our hotel around 6 p.m. We are especially grateful to Mr. Prakash, who shared so much knowledge about Qatar, its history, and how life works in a country where people from so many different nations live together. Thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality.

With a special request, they allowed the addition of one location to the tour with a fee, as well as change the drop off location so I can continue with my own exploring of Qatar. Great tour of the north. Private so on your own terms. Zubair was informative and patient with my many questions and time at the site. It’s a great tour. Only downside is that I visited Qatar in summer- go a different time of year of your schedule allows when it is cooler. The fort and archeological site was amazing!!!
