Melted On In

Museum was cute- we melted on in. Everything looked very much worn. It was nice but a little underwhelming.

Not ok!

When the ticket-buying experience is this bad, you don't even want to go inside! This wasn't a planned activity for us; my daughter, my two nephews (ages 3 and 8), and I were spending the day downtown and decided to visit this museum after lunch. While waiting in line, I scanned the QR code and saw the ticket price was listed at $28. I thought that was a bit steep for a museum, but I figured, why not? However, as soon as I selected our 2:30 PM entry time, the price jumped to $48. I asked the polite staff member at the door if that was correct, and she confirmed it was, explaining that they use "flex pricing." While I can't speak to the exhibits inside, this bait-and-switch pricing felt completely deceptive. On principle, I refused to go in. Fortunately, my nephews got ice cream elsewhere instead, so the day was still a win!

Don’t both

The worst experience for that cost. Too many people allowed at once, no organization, crowded and way too expensive. Don’t do waste your money.

A sweet experience at a bitter price

Not all Museum of Ice Cream locations are the same, and this one was better than the one in Singapore. It had tastier options, more assortments (frozen treats, ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, sorbet), larger portions, possibly more opportunities for ice cream, more interactive setups, and proper displays of fun facts about ice cream -- enough to somewhat qualify as a "museum" and not just a themed indoor playground. I also appreciated the "definitely Boston" flair throughout, from Boston cream pie treats to lobster ice cream (strangely not bad), to Fenway-inspired decor. All that was great. Not so great was how pricey this was. I originally planned to purchase timed-entry tickets through the MOIC website but froze (pun intended) when I saw the near $24 fee on top of that. I *was* willing to turn a blind eye to the $39/person price tag for a "just this once" type of experience, but that unexpected addition was shocking! Thinking those were online processing fees, I decided to have us show up early and purchase tickets at the door. Well, even at the door, you would purchase *digital* tickets via a QR code and the fee was still applicable. The walk-in discount was a nice surprise, but still! Note to Management: Please clarify on your website what the "taxes and fees" are about, at least for the sake of transparency. With that out of the way... Things started out rather unpromising for us, but they improved as time went on and the fun slowly grew like a crescendo. Upon entry, we were sandwiched between two large groups of summer campers, and we stood in line for a long time waiting to be allowed into the second space ("The Creamliner"). Crowds got thinner by the time we made it to the room of fridges, and we were finally able to breathe freely in the Cookie Living Room. That's when things got *really* fun, and we hung back a bit longer there, and a bit longer still in the next room, etc. We spent a particularly long time playing skee ball and other games. No staff rushed us to keep moving, which we appreciated. The interactive nature of each space was both fun and clever. We saw other folks move on without discovering all that each room had to offer -- too bad for them, I guess. The Hidden Library was very cute. Once we made it full circle, we still could get more free ice cream. Eventually we took the slide down to street level, where the kids spent a half hour in the pool of sprinkles (I brought a book). Altogether, we were there for roughly 2.5 hours, which I am still shocked about. A huge shout out to the staff, by the way! There were those who helped guests along, those who prepared / served the ice cream, as well as those who kept the spaces clean by sweeping floors and wiping down surfaces at regular intervals. The MOIC is an enterprise that requires many hands on deck, and maybe that's why tickets cost so much?

Simple and Sweet

Go with friends, family, or a cute date. Not a trip I would go solo. Best enjoyed with company. Best to go early before noon if you do not have children. It starts to get busy at 11:30am and the team at Museum of Ice Cream really does try to push you through the rooms pretty quickly. This probably has to do with the large influx of people they have signed up for the day. Be there on time if not 5-10 minutes early. Drinks are over priced. Would not recommend. The ice cream they give out is good and I would say an appropriate amount considering the amount of rooms you go through. Id recommend this experience for those trying to capture memories for Instagram but if you're someone looking for a more "museum like experience" this is not for you. Definitely try the lobster ice cream. Its an experience like none other. Museum is about a 45 minute run through from start to finish. Don't expect to be there all day.

Sarah, you’ve put a lot of helpful detail into your review—thank you. We’re glad you enjoyed the ice cream (especially the lobster), and it’s great to hear you found the experience was best with company and paced to move through the rooms. We’ll keep your notes in mind for guests planning their visit to Museum of Ice Cream. Hope to see you again soon!

Without big crowds, it's a lot of fun - so plan accordingly

Great time celebrating our grandson's 10th birthday - not the upscale experience/ticket the museum offers, just regular admission for him, my wife and myself. Now even that base price seems pretty expensive: About $125 for the three of us. Still, it was a blast - because we got to enjoy the museum for a long time & get a lot of value. And the trick to that is: Don't be here when it's mobbed. We booked 10:30 admissions, which is their first of the day. No crowds, maybe two dozen people at most. As with mini-golf, we found it wisest to let them "play through" first ... most of them hurried through each part of the museum, leaving us to enjoy in peace & with no lines/rush/pressure. The museum is: Noisy. Blazingly pink. Fun. You're ushered through a series of rooms and experiences, and with most you can stay as long as you like. The games area was a load of fun, as was the airliner and the TV/library room. The "pit" with slide was our grandson's favorite (and surely the reason for the liability waiver they require) In most of these we stayed for a good long while, then went back after enjoying several ice creams in their ice cream parlor. But again, the key was that the museum traffic was light to moderate for the first couple of hours. After that, the big crowds came in, and the whole tenor changed: Lines for everything, jammed hallways, and that almost palpable anxiety/frustration from parents and kids alike. We we happy to head home. Upside: LOTS of staff (very uncommon anywhere these days.) Some we great (the airliner "flight attendants" were awesome, some we good, a couple were just going through the motions. Only one real lemon, a guy at the ice cream shop who was curt & unhelpful.)

Sounds like a fantastic birthday for your grandson—and it’s great to hear you made the most of an early, low-crowd entry at the Museum of Ice Cream. We love that you found the flow that let you enjoy each room longer, with minimal lines and real breathing room. Also, your staff notes stood out: it’s wonderful to hear how many team members were genuinely welcoming, and we appreciate the honest feedback about the couple of spots that didn’t quite land. We’re glad overall you still left feeling like you got your money’s worth—and we hope to welcome your family back again when you can come in before the rush.

The museum of ice cream...

The museum of ice cream is such a cute/fun place for solo adventurist, families, and dates. They have a little bit of everything for everyone with as much ice cream as you can eat. Multiple fun, creative, and interactive room will make your time going through the museum just as amazing as seeing the smiles on the little one’s faces.

If you like overpriced ice cream and broken equipment....

Sadly, it was way overpriced for the experience. All the games and interactive items are broken for the most part. There is a carnival area with one ice cream to try, none of the games worked, all broken. The employee working with only one thing to scoop, waited for you to ask for the ice cream. It was just sad. I do not recommend it at all.
