Great museum. Superb architecture. The collection was sharp. Beautiful.
We had a couple of hours free time before our train was due and decided to catch a taxi up to the Hikaru Museum to see the Hokusai exhibition. What an absolute joy, the museum is a state of the art building and the exhibition was truly fantastic. I wish we had gone there first when we arrived in Takayama as we had to rush around the exhibition. The staff were so kind and helpful and called a taxi for us to get back to the train station. I highly recommend the museum and, of course, the Hokusai exhibition.
It is a splendid facility located about 15 minutes by car from Hida Takayama. The pyramid-shaped building has high ceilings and is spacious. The museum is full of Western Eastern art works. The exhibition of Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji by Hokusai Katsushika was spectacular. This is a great value for 1,000 yen!
This museum is such a surprise in Takayama. But it was a delight to see the amazing work of Hokusai.
Exciting to see the Hokusai exhibition. It was as good as expected. Surprised that Pissarro tucked away in a tiny room. Could have been the central focus of the room.
This places is amazing, a art piece of architecture. A must see and experience if you are in the area.
My friend had a special appointment to take care of and suggested to me that I go the Hikaru Museum. I decided to go and it was magical. There was an exhibit from the Egyptian dynasty, as well as wonderful artworks and calligraphies. I'm so glad I could visit. Also, the staff were all very helpful and kind, and I was surprised at one point in my visit as there was a lovely "light show" in an assembly area. I wasn't expecting that at all! It was subtle beautiful! I highly recommend everyone visit this lovely place. I had lunch at the restaurant and the atmosphere and food were very good, though the curried rice was quite spicy.
