Sbarca con la tua guida turistica e, dopo un giro in barca di un'ora fino all'isola di Elephanta dal Gateway of India, esplora le magnifiche grotte. La parte esterna delle grotte era utilizzata come luogo di culto indù fino all'introduzione del dominio portoghese. Le grotte nell'entroterra sono più piccole e sono grotte buddiste. La grotta principale, altrimenti conosciuta come la Grotta di Shiva, contiene numerose sculture, che la ricoprono interamente, raffiguranti vari aspetti del Signore Shiva, tra cui il suo matrimonio, la sua uccisione di Andhaka e molto altro ancora. Nella grotta principale è possibile anche ammirare una scultura di Trimurti, alta circa 6 m. Altre zone delle grotte ospitano santuari dedicati ai figli di Shiva, Kartikeya e Ganesh. Il Gateway of India è un arco monumentale costruito nel XX secolo a Mumbai. Questo monumento fu eretto per commemorare lo sbarco dell'Imperatore George V e Queen-Empress Mary all'Apollo Bunder sulla loro visita in India nel 1911.

This tour was informative. I learned a lot about religion and life in the island from my Elephanta Caves guide, Sammer. My driver, Mukesh was professional & friendly. My guide, Aarti was knowledgeable, sweet, & very kind. I would highly recommend this tour which also comes with a city sightseeing tour. This tour is a ine stop shop!
