La rotta Machame è anche conosciuta come la rotta del Whisky, data la sua reputazione per essere una dura salita, in contrasto con la più facile via Marangu, che è conosciuta come la rotta della Coca Cola. A differenza della pendenza graduale e delle sistemazioni delle capanne trovate sulla rotta Marangu, gli scalatori di Machame fanno escursioni su sentieri più ripidi, per lunghe distanze, mentre dormono in tenda. La scalata della Machame Route può essere effettuata in un minimo di sei giorni (cinque notti) sulla montagna. Tuttavia, il più delle volte viene affrontato per sette giorni (sei notti), per un miglior programma di acclimatazione dell'altitudine. Il trekking inizia da Machame Gate, situato nella base meridionale della montagna, all'interno della sua lussureggiante e fertile foresta pluviale.

Season Master Adventures were excellent among multiple options we had we booked and did six days tracking with Jack and Frank as guides they were great and very attentive back to poters, chefs, waiters, and entire crew were very friendly.
