Tour mattutino in Fatbike sulle dune

Did the morning tour with Dave and it was a highlight of our trip. He knows the dunes like his own backyard, sets up trail cams out there, follows the animals living in them, and clearly cares a lot about the place. He brought photos, videos and even casts of animal tracks along, so you get a real sense of what’s living out there without having to spot it yourself. He’s energetic, full of good stories, and made the whole thing fun rather than a workout. Very beginner friendly and he showed us how to slalom down the dunes, which was a lot of fun. He also took photos and videos of us during the ride and included them in the price, which isn’t common and was much appreciated. Highly recommended.

We try to ride bicycles whenever we travel, and have ridden bikes in Paris, and Antwerp, and San Francisco, and Vancouver, and…you get the picture. So, while staying as guests at the Forest Lodge on Grootbos Nature Reserve, we decided to sign up for Dave’s Fat Bike Tour to get some pedaling in (after all the wine!). Were so glad we chose this “add on” for our stay, it was one of the most fun bike experiences that we’ve had. Dave is an incredible cyclist, who inspires confidence in even occasional riders like us. We were so excited to be riding down even steep drops in the dunes. And he uses the ride to share about the flora on the dunes, much of it medicinal, and the nocturnal animal life (caracals, genets, foxes, and more), which leaves tracks in the dunes that tell a story about the lives they lead when we’re asleep. There are a few stretches that are downhill, winding, and exhilarating, but if you can ride a bike, it’s a doable tour. And you finish with breathtaking views of De Kelders and Walker Bay. Brilliant activity. Enjoyed by all ages.

What an amazing experience! If you're looking for something fun and different to do in South Africa, I would highly recommend this. It was such a unique adventure and something I would happily do again. The ride itself was so much fun. We started at the top and rode all the way down on the sand. Riding on the sand felt surprisingly smooth once you got the hang of it, and the fat bikes were great quality and easy to ride. There were also a few exciting downhill sections that were an absolute blast once Dave showed us how to tackle them safely. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. We rode through incredible landscapes and finished just above the beach, standing on the rocks with amazing views of the ocean right in front of us. The views alone would have made it worthwhile, but what really made the experience special was Dave. Dave was hands down the best part of the trip. He was incredibly patient, explained everything clearly, and shared lots of interesting information about the area and the wildlife. More importantly, he made the whole ride so much fun. If you fell off your bike, he would probably be the first person laughing—but he also made sure you were okay and helped you get right back on. He created such a relaxed atmosphere that nobody felt embarrassed about making mistakes, even when we had some spectacular falls! He took loads of photos and videos throughout the ride, which captured both the beautiful scenery and some very funny moments. Looking back at them afterwards gave us plenty of laughs. At the end of the ride, we were picked up and taken back to the starting point, which meant we could spend the entire time enjoying the ride without having to worry about cycling back up. I would recommend this experience to anyone. The views were incredible, the bikes were excellent, and Dave's sense of humour, patience, and enthusiasm made the whole day unforgettable. We had time of our life At first, we thought it was a simple hotel activity like many others As we went on we got into Dave’s world. Dave is a truly passionate nature lover. Not only he taught my wife how to ride a fat bike, he also made us understand how the dunes animal ecosystem works, he showed us fresh animal tracks and he told us amazing stories. We had adrenalinic downhill dune rides till the ocean waves and we loved every moment We highly recommend riding a fat bike with Dave and more generally spending time with him to get to know ocean/beach life around the beautiful Walker Bay coast

We have had an amazing experience riding on the sand dunes. Dave was the perfect guide not only showing us beautiful views but also sharing his knowledge of the local animals living in the dunes. He made it very interesting for our boys. His sense of humor and his good mood made our session even more memorable. A great afternoon that will live with us for the rest of our life

Cycling in unknown environments is fun, but Fatbiking through the dunes in South Africa is amazing. Our guide took us through nature and the dunes, telling us all about life in those dunes along the way. There are a surprising number of wild cats. While cycling, the guide takes photos and videos. Very beautiful images are captured there. Top morning had! Thanks Dave!

The fat bike ride with Dave was epic! His enthusiasm is off the scale, and it’s impossible not to have an amazing time in this amazing place. An extra bonus was Dave’s knowledge of all the animals that roam around these dunes, and a few exciting surprises linked to his stories of encounters with them. Highly recommend this tour, we had an amazing time and would love to do it again sometime. The bikes are light and easy to cycle over the sand and the trails are easy to follow but with fun descents and twisty bits to make it exciting as well.

Dave was a very passionate guide who talked about the wildlife in the dunes. The bike tour was fun and full of unexpected twists. We highly recommend this trip to anyone who loves nature!!!
