Il grande monastero di Meteoron è il più grande e il più antico di tutti. Si chiamava il monastero che era "sospeso nell'aria" (meteoro), a causa della formazione della gigantesca roccia in cima alla quale era stata costruita. Il grande monastero di Meteoro fu fondato da San Atanasio il meteorite che fu il primo fondatore del monastero e l'organizzatore del sistematico Koenovion. Per questo motivo, la fondazione di questo monastero è considerata un punto di svolta, o meglio ancora, l'inizio del monastisismo organizzato a Holy Meteora. Hosios Athanasios nacque intorno al 1302 nella città medievale di New Patras, l'odierna Hypati e il suo nome laico era Andronikos.
Il Santo Monastero di Varlaam è il secondo monastero più grande. Si trova di fronte al grande monastero di Meteoro ed è stato fondato a metà del 14 ° secolo dall'esercitato Hosios Varlaam. L'elegante monastero Catholicon fu costruito in onore di Agioi Pantes nel 1541-42, da due fratelli di Ioannina, i monaci sacerdoti Hosioi Teofane e Nectarios gli Apsarades. Il primo è che il nome Anapafsas è stato attribuito da uno dei benefattori del monastero, mentre la seconda spiegazione ha a che fare con la posizione del monastero, la prima ad essere incontrata durante la salita e probabilmente servita ai pellegrini e ad altri visitatori come riposo posto prima di continuare.

Despite it being a long day (4 hours each way and 14.5 hours overall), I thoroughly recommend doing this trip. The views of the monasteries on top of the rock formations are breathtaking. The guide was informative, the coach comfortable and the lunch was good.

This tour was everything we needed. Comfortable transportation, safe driver and excellent guide. Plenty of stops and time to take wonderful photo oppertunities. Lunch and Dinner breaks were adequate, although the food and service was mediocre, and to be expected when dealing with large coach numbers, throughput was the main objective of the restaurant. Ordering the food ahead of time was seamless. 10 hours of driving time to consider when booking this trip but the endpoint was worth the drive.

Very organised from the beginning. Easy meeting spot. Comfortable bus. Great place to stop for bathroom and snacks. Guide in Meteora was awesome. Well done Dimitris!! Dinner at Camino was beautiful!! Sunset over the beach. Pre ordering was an easy service, much recommended. Would definitely recommend the day. Get your walking shoes on. Walk up to first monastery was intense!

Experience was excellent, length of visit was appropriate and comfortable. crowd size was suitable to our needs, Katarina was excellent in her interactions with all of us, and she was knowledgable about rock formation, caves and monsteries.
