Itinerary 5/5 Guide/Drivers (2) 5/5 Communication Response time with Local Friends 5/5 (quick but a bit chastising). They Always tried to deal with any situation quickly. Accuracy 4/5 Hotel Rooms 2/5 We booked 2 tours with Local Friends of Albania: a 10 Day Albania tour with 3* hotels and a 5 Day Balkin tour with 4* hotels. Both itineraries were perfect for us to see Albania then New Macedonia, Kosovo & Montenegro. We enjoyed the private tour with English speaking Driver-Guides. Both were excellent and attentive and great ambassadors for Local Friends. Where the let down came was the hotels booked for us. The 3* were basic hotels with issues. The 4* which were actually the same price as the 3* hotels were a mixed bag. Two hotels were basic and two were good. Every-time it appeared we received the most basic of rooms when for another €10 we would have been upgraded. When we complained to the owner about the quality of hotels, he said he had a long relationship with these hotels and that we were costing him more than he charged us and he was not making money because of costs going up (interesting as gas went up a bit but the guides & hotels booked 6 months in advance did not increase in cost). When we booked the second tour and confirmed we would pay for better hotels & rooms, Company committed to 4* quality rooms but only 2 of the 4 were acceptable. If I were to book Local Friends of Albania again, I would definitely book my own rooms and only pay for the itinerary and guides.
The tour was an amazing experience! Exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site of Gjirokastra was a highlight, and the guides were knowledgeable, making the history come alive. The visit to the thermal baths added a relaxing touch, and the nature walks were beautiful. Accommodation was comfortable, and the local food was delicious. I highly recommend this tour for those wanting to immerse themselves in Albanian culture and nature
The tour was amazing. Skerdi was very knowledgeable and showed us a lot about Albanian history and Albanian culture. Very recommended tour.
