They work very hard to make this an easy and fun tour! Easy pick up! Had a really good time. Thanks Conner!
Great time on the rafting trip. Our guide, Jaret, was skilled, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun. He worked really hard to paddle and guide the raft! We appreciated the water gear to stay dry. Thanks for a great memory of Mendenhall glacier.
We booked this tour directly through the operator and not through the cruise line. We met near the tram and they drove us to the launch site. Our group on the bus was fairly small, but when we got to the site there were several other busses full of people - I think they launched 10 boats or so during this trip. They gave us waterproof pants and boots and a life vest to wear, and they collected our shoes for transportation to the end point. The gear wasn't in great shape - the first pair of pants they gave me had a large gash in them. I've gone rafting before, and unlike those experiences, this raft had fixed benches inside, and they arranged / balanced you on the benches. We were not given an opportunity to help paddle across the lake - our guide did all the work, though we would've been glad to help. As stated in other reviews, you are paddled across the lake and don't get anywhere near the glacier or the waterfall. There are three-ish moderately exciting portions of the river you go down, and I got splashed some. No rapids were more than Class 2 or so. The City was completing a project to construct flood control measures along the river while we were there, so the river was mostly lined with Hesco barriers and rip rap. There were a few park areas you go by that don't have that, and we did see some wildlife. We had an eagle do a fly-over, found some nests in trees, and saw a harbor seal. We were the last boat out of the river at the end point. We were pretty rushed there and didn't get to enjoy the amenities in the tent at the end - we never saw our photos, never got the pin we were promised, had no time for drinks. We did get some of the provided snacks. Back at the pickup for the return trip, we found the only busses available were for those chartered by the cruise lines (and not OUR cruise line). A nice bus driver let us use some empty seats on his bus or we would've been stranded. I would like to shout out the guides on the trip - ours was awesome, and all the guides were friendly and helpful. They made the trip better than it would otherwise be. Overall we had a good time.
This was a spur of the moment excursion. It was a little pricy as are most cruise ship excursions, but the convenience factor as well worth it. The cruise ship people delivered our tickets to us on the boat told us where to meet bus and what time. Getting to the location was super easy because it was at the end of the pier and the bus driver had of interesting stories and pointed out eagles and other various points of interest the rafting companies supplied rain boots and chest waders and life preservers. I recommend you bring a raincoat because those weren’t supplied. We were given explicit instructions on what to do and how to behave and several instances of what if. Then our guide Jason rowed us across the lake at the foot of the glacier. Truly, you’re still a couple of miles away from the actual glacier, but you can see it and it’s huge and beautiful to look at. Everything along the trip was scenic and beautiful to me that was worth the price of admission alone. As far as the rapids went, Jason told us they were class two or three, which meant nothing to me because we have no rapids hours of where I live so I was expecting a white knuckle trip. Class two and three turned out to be no more white knuckle than a river raft ride at six flags, which was absolutely fine with me because I wasn’t trying to get killed on vacation. I was more concerned that there might be bears, and not at least not during our trip. We did see several eagles, and Jason pointed out the high watermark from previous floods, which would indicate that not all rafting rides go as smooth as ours did. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and at the end of the ride there was a beer tent and some snacks set up, and then we wereshown to our bus and back to our cruise ship on time. If you’re looking for a white knuckle class five rafting ride, this probably isn’t aimed at you, but I guess that depends on the weather doesn’t I would recommend this for families or for couples and even for old folks who want some mild to moderate excitement. I would do this again in the future.
Our group was ages 17-71! It was fun for all of us! We had a great guide who made this adventure interesting and even more fun!
Excellent tour. Perfect length and perfect timing for it all to be a seamless experience. Loved our guide , Alyse. She was funny , knowledgeable , and experienced. Highly recommend this tour. Breathtaking scenery as well.
We booked our floating trip through Alaska Shore Excursions. Our guide was Harris and our group thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He was very safe, knowledgeable, personable, had some jokes and even let my 14 year old son do some paddling (highlight of the trip for him). Highly recommend!!
We had a fantastic time! Mendenhall Glacier was beautiful, and the float was peaceful and scenic. There was very little white water (at least the day that we went). Dalton was a fantastic guide. It was a wonderful opportunity to see a bit of Juneau away from the crowds in port.
We had an amazing experience at Mendenhall River! Our guide, Cierra, was engaging, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. She shared so much interesting information throughout the tour and kept the group entertained the entire time. She was also impressively strong and handled everything with confidence and professionalism. The tour was well organized, fun, and truly memorable. Highly recommend this excursion and be sure to ask for Cierra if you can!
This was a great time floating down the river and taking in the scenery while the guide did all the paddling. The only thing that would have been better is to have gotten closer to the glacier—we could only see it from a distance.
