Nella Casa Grotta del Casalnuovo è possibile vivere l’esperienza di una vera casa dei Sassi attraverso il suo arredamento originale e gli strumenti di uso quotidiano che la famiglia che l’abitava utilizzava nella vita di tutti i giorni. Quelle che comunemente vengono chiamate Case Grotta sono delle vere e proprie collezione etnografiche, dei piccoli musei con gli oggetti di uso comune e di lavoro dei tempi in cui i Sassi erano abitati, prima dello spopolamento avvenuto negli anni cinquanta. Al suo interno sono ricostruiti gli ambienti e gli arredi originali della casa prima che gli antichi rioni fossero spopolati alla fine degli anni cinquanta.
SI tratta del cuore del Sasso Caveoso, la zona più antica scavata nella roccia collocata difronte le caverne della preistoria dalla quale si può ammirare la valle della Gravina
La Chiesa della Madonna delle Grazie è una piccolissima, ma graziosa chiesa rupestre, situata nella zona del Sasso Caveoso, a pochi metri dalla Casa Cisterna. Questa piccola chiesa merita di essere inserita tra le cose da vedere a Matera in quanto è una chicca ed è lontana dalle folle di turisti.
I Sassi di Matera sono due quartieri di Matera, Sasso Caveoso e Sasso Barisano, formati da edifici e architetture rupestri scavati nella roccia della Murgia materana. Insieme al rione Civita, costituiscono il centro storico della città di Matera. Nel 1993 sono stati dichiarati patrimonio dell'umanità UNESCO.

Our guide Brunella was spectacular. She showed us Matera in a way that only someone who lives there can. It did not feel like a tour that recounted a script made for her but truly a conversation with someone who loves this city!
We were extremely satisfied; Luca, the guide, was very thorough and made us relive the history of Matera from the years when it was considered the shame of Italy to today... An open-air museum 😍 I highly recommend it.
I did the tour knowing it was in Italian but there was no English option at that time. I loved walking around in the evening and the point is to view the sight. The best part and why I booked the tour was the entry to a church and cave house that I otherwise would not have seen.

At the beginning a little hesitant as the duration of the visit was 2 hours , and I did not believe that my 8-year-old son would be fascinated, fortunately also thanks to the guide that fully involved him the 2 hours have passed pleasantly, I recommend this guide that explains the real Matera and from great advice, important to have comfortable shoes.
