This was one of the best tours I’ve taken. Maike(pronounced Mike)made the tour personal and was able to not only point out great spots but was able to add color to inform us about the deeper meaning and culture. The car was clean and he provided water. His English was good and clear ,making sure that we understood him all along the way. I would without reservation hire this company and this tour guide again.

I'll begin with positive feedback about our recent experience. Maik reached out a few days before the tour to confirm our pickup time and location, and recommended that we leave 30 mins earlier to beat the traffic. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Frankfurt. His vehicle was very comfortable, and he provided water as promised in the tour description. During the tour, he reprimanded us like children on several occasions. In his exact words, "he said that we had two commands - stay" and I forgot the other belittling term he used. One example was when he berated us upon his return from purchasing our advance tickets to the castle tour because we walked a few steps away into a gift shop and weren't standing exactly where he left us. He shared how past tourists have gotten lost, although, he had my telephone number, if we had gotten separated from him. He also demanded that I not take any pictures until after the castle tour was over. We were literally standing outside for at least 5 minutes before the doors opened for the beginning of the tour. He also told me, not asked, to get off my phone when I needed to check it for a missed call. I thought this was inconsiderate, thoughtless and disrespectful. A few suggestions would include allowing tourists to have a voice and choice of where they would like to dine for lunch, especially since lunch is out of pocket. I also suggest that the tour allow for free time for tourists to explore the Hieldeberg marketplace by establishing a precise time and place to meet up later. We felt rushed as we browsed a few souvenir shops that he only allowed us to visit. Although, I think that Maik was very controlling, rigid and inflexible, I truly believe his intentions were for the best.
Well, some people are quite uneasy to deal with, especially when they freshly arrived and are heavily jetlagged. Please allow (AND READ) some comments on this review: 1. First I have to apologize. I in fact said "for today I have one (not 2) easy command, just 2 words: "Follow me!". The day before I had a military couple and there the sentence was appropriate (with a flikering eye of course). I don´t know why I did repeat this phrase I usually never use, but it happened, it was inappropreate and I apologize for that. 2. I asked the guests to wait for me at a specific location for a minute while I picked up the tickets for the interior. While I was away, they left this location and went into a souvenir shop. I coincidentialy found them in there. If I had taken the normal way back from the ticket booth, I would have missed them. Not seeing them at the given meeting point would have immedeatly ringed the alarm bells. Usually grown up adults undertand why it is important to stay at a meeting point (so did more then 400 guests I brought here before) and my assumtion would have been that something dramatic must have happened - like a medical emergency. The mobile unfortunatly does not work in the mountains, so I haven´t had any chance to find out where they are. I consider the guest behavior highly inappropriate and yes, I told them to please please please don´t do that again. 2. I kindly asked to not take more pictures (some had already been taken) on the way into the castle, but on the way out because we were 2 minutes bevor scheduled departure of the interior tour and they in most cases start on time (this day they had a 2 minute delay, what I of course didn´t know before). The tour starts inside and the door is closed as soon as it started, means you cannot join it with a delay. And I still had to give some explanations on how to get out and where to meet me after the tour. I don´t know anything about checking a phone for incoming messages, to me it looked like the lady customer was taking pictures. However this doesn´t matter. I wasn´t rude, I gave the explanation why I "requested" to do the pictures after the tour and it is my true belive that 99% of my guests would have considered that totally normal. 3. The customers booked the short tour (we have a second one which takes 2 hours longer) and I can do a lot, yet not stretch time. If the lady wanted some time on her own for shopping, all she did need to do is telling me (in the beginning of the tour I always always always encourage people saying "if there is anything I can do to make your tour more enjoyable, please let me know!"). The lady didn´t say a word, though. If she did I would have suggest points of interesst to be left away in order to find more time for shopping. 4. The suggestion with a choice of Restaurants is ment well, yet not practicable. We need to make advance reservations, so we cannot adjust wile we are doing the tour. The restaurant we use though is non of the tourists traps, yet the best rated German cusine restaurant in all of Heidelberg and as you may see when reading other reviews, our guests LOVE it. We do -of course- send our guests an introduction to the tour about 3 to 7 days in advance and ask about possible food restrictions. If we receive a feedback on that (like Gluten free, vegetarian, don´t eat pork) we reserve at another restaurant. The lady didn´t give any feedback, though. I have to mention that while I consider the lady having been moody and aggresive aginst me for the entire tour, her husband was super lovley and left with very warm and nice words.
If you want the best experience visiting Germany’s beautiful sites-A private tour is the way to go. Mike picked us up promptly & we drove in an extremely comfortable car to Heidelberg. His tour was carefully curated & we saw the best of the city. A week before our trip I hurt my knee & Mike was able to tailor our trip to a comfortable pace-that wouldn’t have happened with a tour bus. He took us to a wonderful restaurant for an authentic German meal. It was a lovely day!

This is a good tour. Maik is friendly, knowledgeable (you won't believe the history lesson you'll get), and flexible. He was very accommodating to our special needs, and made our day quite enjoyable. My only caution to a prospective client is to understand that, in spite of the title of the tour being "from Frankfurt", there is an additional charge involved if you choose to be picked up in Frankfurt. Otherwise, I would not hesitate to recommend this tour.
Thanks for the nice review and happy new year. The tour offer at Viator mentions the pick-up fee 3 (three) times plus we send a message before departure. We did the tour app. 100 times so far and no one was ever confused about that. The tour can be booked from Frankfurt and to make it visible for search engines we have to tell that in the title. The pickup charge varies depending on pickup point from zero to 50.- Euro. We are absolutely transparent and fair about our tours and I believe it's good to talk about possible misunderstandings during the tour and not in a review, where it can create harm. I certainly don't deserve here ....

This is by far one of the best private tours we’ve ever taken, Maik (Mike) was absolutely excellent guide, very knowledgeable and stayed with us throughout the tour. We had an excellent tour of the castle, the old city and the best was the restaurant for our German lunch. Definitely refer Maik and this tour to anyone visiting Frankfurt or the area.

Maik was a terrific guide. Very knowledgeable and communicative. He spoke English extremely well and was very informative. He made clear any details about pick up and the tour days before. When our scheduled guide became very ill prior to trip, he gave us several options to reschedule including a full refund, moving to another date with an additional stop added or another guide.

This trip to Heidelberg was well worth it The area is beautiful and the castle tour was great We had a lovely time and lunch in a small genuine German restaurant was a highlight Would have preferred an earlier start as with a one hour drive you don’t get to Heidelberg until after 11 am this means lunch was pushed back to 2-30 which made our return to Frankfurt at 6-00pm We also would have liked some time to wander the shops but time did not allow Overall a good day in a very beautiful place,
Thanks for your nice review. There is 2 reasons to avoid an earlier start, if anyhow possible: 1. A lot of our guests are from the U.S. and Frankfurt is their first stop, means: They are heavily jetlagged. 2. During the week there is heavy rush hour traffic into and out of Frankfurt untill 9.30. The departure time is clearly announced in the tour description and you have been picked up precisely on time. The late lunch (usually 2 p.m. ) comes for a reason, too. Most guests get up quite late and have a huge breakfast in their hotels, so they ain't hungry earlier. However we are flexible and if someone wants to eat earlier, we go earlier. Remember my first question: "If there is anything I can do to make your trip more enjoyable, please let me know!". Yes, more time would be wonderful. But again I am flexible. If someone wants to go shopping, we go. I just cannot stretch time. And as you mentioned we already got back 1 and 1/2 hours past schedule without wasting any time anywhere. That was by the way 1 and 1/2 hours of my leisure time, not calculated in the low price for this standard tour. Hope to see you again on the future All the best Maik
Michael was delightful. Full of knowledge and able to deliver in a wonderfully entertaining way. If there was a quiet time, he would flip through the vast knowledge base in his head and deliver something culturally or historically interesting. He always allowed for questions, if we had them, and if we didn't, he just went through his knowledge base to find something to entertain us.
