Il nome della piazza è cambiato nel tempo. È stata conosciuta come "Plaza del Arrabal", "Plaza de la Constitución", "Plaza Real", "Plaza de la República" e ora "Plaza Mayor". Questi nomi riflettono eventi, storia e regno nella storia Spagnola. "Plaza del Arrabal" era il nome originale dell'attuale "Plaza Mayor". La "Plaza del Arrabal" era un tempo il sito del Marketplace più popolare fino alla fine del XV secolo. In seguito alla Costituzione del 1812, tutte le principali piazze della Spagna furono rinominate "Plaza de la Constitución". Mantenne anche questo nome dal 1820 al 1823, dal 1833 al 1835, dal 1840 al 1843 e dal 1876 al 1922. Quando il re Borbón fu restaurato nel 1814, divenne nota come "Plaza Real". Sono passati più di 100 anni da quando il Mercado de San Miguel ha aperto le sue porte come mercato alimentare all'ingrosso. Oggi, questo edificio storico si distingue come uno dei principali mercati gastronomici del mondo. Permette ai visitatori di sperimentare l'essenza e i sapori più significativi di ogni angolo della Spagna. Questa stradina è una delle due piazze più affascinanti di Madrid: Conde de Miranda e villa. E può vantare di ospitare uno spazio protetto dall'ambiente storico e artistico che lo circonda: all'angolo con Plaza de la villa si trova la Torre de los Lujanes (appartenente al XV secolo). In quella stessa parte della strada si trovano anche la Società Economica Reale Maritense degli Amici del Paese, la vecchia Biblioteca Comunale dei Giornali e la Chiesa del Corpus Domini, dove si trova il Convento di Las Carboneras, poiché la congregazione conserva un'immagine dell'Immacolata Concezione trovata in una fornace a carbone e alla quale sono attribuiti vari miracoli milagros.
Era uno dei principali centri medievali di Madrid, poiché da esso partono tre strade, corrispondenti alla disposizione originale della città: Codo, Cordón e Madrid. Alla sua periferia si trovano le facciate principali di tre edifici di alto valore storico-artistico, costruiti in secoli diversi. La più antica è la Casa y Torre de los Lujanes (XV secolo), in stile gotico-mudéjar, situata sul lato est della Plaza. Questo è ora l'ufficio dell'Accademia di Scienze morali e politiche.
Il Palazzo Reale di Madrid è la residenza ufficiale del re di Spagna; Tuttavia, gli attuali re non vivono in esso, ma nel Palazzo della Zarzuela, quindi viene utilizzato per cerimonie di stato e atti solenni. First the meeting point's address was wrong and the whole group was not informed that the Fun&Tickets company has changed the place..thanks to the hospitality of a random guy from the place nearby we were told the new address When arrived, none of the stuff even apologised... The short walk where we were supposed to learn about Madrid was just a walk to the castle without any promised interesting stories as it was said in the tour description The castle walk was unsatisfactory as well- random information was provided in an english with such strong spanish accent that it was difficult to follow Not recommeded
At first we thought we were only visiting the royal palace, but in reality, before arriving there, we had the pleasure of seeing and learning about other parts of the city that were also linked to royal history. Federico was a professional and friendly guide who explained everything to us in great detail.

At first I was disappointed we were walking “again on another tour”. I thought we were on a tour bus as my hubby had booked it but with Beatrice, soon I forgot I was walking and exploring in the August heat. I was transported into another time of Madrid and was in my element of history. She was courteous, professional and clearly spoke English. She didn’t rush us and took care to show us many key points of interest during our tour (including brief quizzes) while visiting the Royal Spanish palace. I would recommend her as a guide to anyone.
