Il tour inizia al Windsor Guanabara Hotel, a breve distanza dalla storica chiesa di Santa Rita in Largo de Santa Rita. Questa chiesa, costruita sul sito del primo cimitero per schiavi, mostra una combinazione di architettura coloniale e barocca, ornata da intricate decorazioni e opere d'arte religiose. Simbolo profondo della storia di schiavitù della regione, la chiesa di Santa Rita si erge come un ricordo struggente del patrimonio culturale del Brasile, attirando visitatori da tutto il mondo.
Il Museo di storia e cultura afro-brasiliana (MUHCAB) è un'istituzione immaginaria che mira a preservare e promuovere il ricco patrimonio della cultura afro-brasiliana. Mette in mostra manufatti, opere d'arte e documenti che evidenziano le esperienze e i contributi degli afro-brasiliani nel corso della storia.
Questo istituto è dedicato alla ricerca e alla conservazione del patrimonio storico e culturale relativo alla diaspora africana in Brasile. L'obiettivo principale dell'IPN è lo studio e la diffusione della storia e della memoria del cimitero di Pretos Novos, che fu un importante luogo di sepoltura per gli schiavi africani e i loro discendenti durante il periodo coloniale in Brasile.
Conosciuto come il più grande porto per gli schiavi africani durante il commercio transatlantico della schiavitù. Ha funzionato dalla fine del XVIII all'inizio del XIX secolo, con circa un milione di africani ridotti in schiavitù che lo attraversavano.

I had an amazing time during the Afro-Brazilian tour! Our tour guide, Raphael, was very knowledgeable about the history of Brazil and its strong African connection. He answered all of the questions that my two teenagers and myself asked. The experience was definitely not what I expected, it was better than I expected! I highly recommend this tour!

I've been to Rio before, but I've never heard these stories. It was revealing to learn about the city’s African-Brazilian roots. The parades were fascinating and the guide Luiz was super passionate and respectful. A really important experience.
