We had a really great day, the only downfalls were the conditions of the zoo. I just can't believe that in this day and age, animals are being kept in these conditions. There is no care for the animals, they are a huge money making part of a tour. Lions are clearly being bread so as photos of the cubs can be taken with people. There were so many cubs and so many lions. The zoo is so far away that they gather people together on these tours and charge extra prices for entry and photos. The zoo is in a very sad state and it's so sad to know the animals will live the rest of their lives in those conditions. Putting all that aside the day was fun but I was shocked you had to buy a water gun for 10euros if you wanted to do the water fight. They are certainly out to make a profit! Our tour guide was absolutely lovely and talked us around the place explaining things along our journey.
We booked the Lion Safari through Amit on the Eftalia Island beachfront. The trip was advertised as including a mud bath, water fights, a visit to a zoo and photos with lion cubs. The water fights between the open vehicles were definitely high-adrenaline and great fun, but be prepared to get absolutely soaked. Unfortunately, some people took it too far; at one stop a guest from another bus got onto ours and threw a can of beer over a teenager on our bus. Our driver was also pulled over by the police, possibly due to speed, safety concerns or the lack of seat belts. Despite that, the safari was one of the highlights of our holiday, along with the boat trip and the chance to swim in the lagoon. The downside was the organisation. We were picked up from our hotel at 8:30am, but it was around 2.5 hours before the actual safari started. After about an hour’s drive we stopped at a café for refreshments, photos and the sale of water guns, which were very expensive unless negotiated — I managed to get four for 2,000 Turkish lira. The advertised mud bath never happened. Instead, the children were given a 15-minute foam party in a car park with no shade. The worst part of the trip was the zoo and lion cub photo experience. The cubs appeared to be sedated and were repeatedly picked up for photos for financial gain. I paid 1,200 Turkish lira for myself and my daughter, but after walking around the zoo and seeing what I felt were very poor and cruel living conditions for the animals, I refused to pay the additional £10 per photos to have them sent via WhatsApp. Dinner was included but again drinks were at an additional cost. Overall, the safari had some fantastic moments, but the poor organisation, welfare concerns and extra charges left a sour ending to the experience.
I visited the animal park that is located near the Green canyon included in the Safari and which was paid on site, well well….. a little scam well hidden, so we paid like all the participants the 5 euro announced.. In short, that is not the real problem. The real problem is the animal condition; the people on-site push the females to have multiple litters so as not to stop the financial windfall that the lion cubs bring, in addition to being in cages that are much too small for their personal well-being. Not to mention the foul odor. Park to be avoided
Beware, this is a trap that wastes your time and money. Travel agencies don't give you accurate information.
One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had to endure. The day was mis-sold from the get go, and the entire day was about getting as much money out of you as possible. The “safari” or “zoo”… when we spoke to our rep we asked for a safari day, I’m comfortable with animals in captivity if they’re clearly being well looked after and nurtured, what we experienced was a dodgy bus ride to a run down so called zoo which displayed the most horrific sites of animals clearly not being looked after, the lion cub photo experience filled me with guilt for the whole day as they were clearly sedated, I’m disappointed in myself for funding such a terrible place and will be doing as much as possible to spread awareness. The costs… we were told lunch was included but not drinks or the photo with the lion cubs, fair enough at first thought, however, it transpired that you had to pay for the photo to be taken and then pay for the actual printed photo at the end of the day, I heard from others that prices differed. Water guns for a water fight we were not told about, were 10€ each! We were herded into large seating areas and left to sit for ages in the heat, with refreshments and other pointless tat available to buy, and of course you will buy drink after drink just to get through the day and the heat, these are also sold at a premium! €5 euro for a coke, €2 euro for water!!! The entire day was designed to extract as much money from tourists as possible which begs the question as to why the zoo is in such terrible condition. The transfer… firstly it was 45 minutes late, great start! The bus itself was not allowed on my resort, likely because it looked like it had been pulled from a battle field. No windows, no safe driving, the water fight later in the day was a chaotic race around the green canyon constantly squirting water at other buses, people on the bus were climbing around to get water from buckets whilst the bus was moving, there was no regard for the safety of the passengers. Mis-sold package.. sold as a family friendly day, based on everything I’ve described above it’s fair to say it’s not. We got chatting to a family who brought their 15 month old baby, and saw another family with an elderly lady in a wheelchair, quite clearly common practice selling this day out to any and every tourist with no care or consideration for their welfare. This entire day has ruined our holiday, spoiled our views of Turkey as a country, I feel exploited and traumatised after witnessing such cruelty at this zoo

Best day out ever ! Me and kids loved every minute of it
We were having a great time until we arrived at the "zoo". I've honestly not been able to stop thinking about it since. The conditions for the animals are horrendous. It was so sad seeing a lone baboon walk around his cage. Too many heartbreaking images to type, but it wasn't a zoo, it was an animal torture chamber. Up until this point, we couldnt fault it for the money. Our kids were having a blast, high energy, friendly vibes, and the water fights between buses was a fabulous way of making sure that no child got bored whilst traveling! Not one "are we nearly there yet?" the whole time. Just such a shame that the Lion cubs part, which we were so looking forward to, was the worst part of the trip! Would have given it a great review had the zoo not featured on the stops list. Find a similar excursion without the zoo. Believe me, you'll leave depressed.
