La Legong Dance, spesso indicata come Legong Kraton, è una delle danze classiche di corte più apprezzate di Bali, un tempo eseguita esclusivamente all’interno dei palazzi reali. Il Legong Kraton è una danza classica raffinata che presenta un dramma reale altamente stilizzato eseguito da tre ballerini: un inserviente di corte e due legong vestiti in modo identico che ritraggono personaggi nobili. Accompagnata dai ritmi espressivi di un'orchestra gamelan, la performance si basa su movimenti aggraziati e sfumature musicali per suggerire cambiamenti di scena ed emozioni. La storia, radicata nella storia del XII-XIII secolo del Giavanese orientale, narra di re Lasem, che trova la fanciulla Rangkesari persa nella foresta e la imprigiona nel suo palazzo. Suo fratello, il Principe di Daha, minaccia la guerra a meno che non venga liberata. Rangkesari invoca la pace, ma il re sceglie la battaglia. Sulla strada per il campo di battaglia, incontra un uccello che gli predice la morte. Ignorando il presagio, procede a combattere e alla fine viene ucciso, un destino preannunciato nel suo struggente addio prima della guerra.

I have a background in dance, so I was so excited to go to this, its actually one of reasons we went to Ubud. It was everything I hoped it would be. The performers were fabulous and the costumes were stunning. The story was so beautifully performed to wonderful traditional music. The musicians were highly skilled. We arrived 40mins prior & all the seats were taken & hardly any space on ground at front, but I managed to get a spot, but its just an old carpet on the ground, so very hard. Take a cushion to sit on if you want to sit down the front.
Great way to spend an evening. The dancers were amazing, very expressive and so mesmerising. Highly recommend to anyone interested in theatre and dance!
An interesting and inexpensive 1 1/2 hours with several stories represented by dance. We arrived 35mins before the start, and had OK seats, with a side view. Those arriving later had poor seating, and later still Standing Room Only. Some seating areas are covered, others open.
Amazing dancing! Such a fun experience right in the heart of Ubud. Make sure to get there an hour/45 minutes early if you want a good seat.
Great show. But need to get there early to get seats…. And it’s not terribly comfortable…maybe bring a soft jacket to sit on? Also, not sure what they do when it’s raining…. It’s all outside.
Loved the show…. Truly entertaining and professional. But the seating is pretty uncomfortable for an older person.

First legong dance show for me. My impression was that the troupe performed very well and also the gamelan orchestra. Overall a very good experience.
The palace is located in the heart of Ubud, so it’s easy to get to if you’re staying in/near the center. We arrived about one hour early since we weren’t exactly sure where we needed to go and they were already allowing folks in to choose their seat. It gets pretty full so if you want a seat, with a back then try to get to the venue at least 45 minutes early. The show was very enjoyable and the performers were all very good. The band played traditional Balinese music and the dancers were very colorful and well choreographed. The tickets don’t cost mush and I think it was a great value.
We arrived about 45 minutes early, had seats in the 5th row. Good view, could see whole stage, about 5 rows open still behind us. Can buy cold beverages (soda and beer) from a few vendors. Bathrooms easily accessable. Place was full by showtime on a Monday. The music is trance-like, and the perfromers all very good. Worth a watch, some left before the end, and they didn't miss much. Show was about 75 minutes. Recommend reading the pamphlet while waiting as it explains the dances. Note that airflow is poor and it was very hot, bring a fan.
