La Traviata L'Opera Originale di Giuseppe Verdi

Very disappointing experience. We were three people and paid for VIP tickets, seated in row 5, yet had extremely poor visibility of the performance. Unless seated towards the side of the row, it was very difficult to see what was happening. We appreciate opera and are familiar with La Traviata, and unfortunately we also found this particular production to be of a very poor standard. The church is beautiful, but in our experience it was simply not a suitable venue for staging this production in this configuration. We would actually have left earlier, but did not want to disturb the audience or performers, so we waited until halfway through. Interestingly, two guests seated in row 2 with the higher-tier “Exclusive” tickets also left at that point. When we complained afterwards, Opera e Lirica told us that we should have raised the visibility problem during the performance and that they could have moved us. However, we were three people and there were not three suitable seats available at the front. More fundamentally, customers paying a premium for VIP seats should not have to complain after the performance starts and hope to be relocated simply in order to see the show. Our refund request was refused. For us, this was unfortunately one of the most disappointing experiences of our trip to Rome and certainly not an experience we could recommend at this price.

The pews all have cushions and it was worth it for us for VIP upcharge. The doors opened just before 8 (show starts at 8:30), they use the door that is closer to Nazionale St (not the one that has signs for bathroom). If you have VIP tickets you can enter first and choose your seats first. Closer to the aisle is a better view. The chamber orchestra is on the left so if you sit too far on the left the orchestra will be in your line of sight. The Opera was well done with experienced singers and the one playing Violetta was amazing. This is an Episcopalian church that was built in 1888 with Pre-Raphealite style mosiacs and was really beautiful. There was a nice break between acts and you could get up and walk around. The ambiance and the performance itself were transporting. Also, if you use Viator and get a voucher it's no problem, you don't have to trade it in for a ticket. Just go to the church and show the voucher, smooth process, and they had our names on the sheet.

At the entrance, there is a CD, but that was all the positive aspects. The ventilation creates background noise. It is unclear why it is not ventilated during the day. The concert performance is interesting, but it is also unclear why one does not choose Tosca in a church in Rome. The singers are vocally average, and the articulation is poor - and this is not due to the acoustics, as the articulation was perfect during Haydn's Creation at the same location. For those who have never been to the opera, this is a nice introduction. Those who regularly attend the opera should think it over carefully.....

The church is beautiful and the opera was fun. The female lead and the man who played the father were incredible! Get there early if want want a good seat.

The instrumentation with piano and individual solo instruments does not work. The grand piano was poorly tuned, and the intonation of the instruments was incorrect. The choral sections all fell apart in terms of tempo. No staging, no content design, no program booklet. Definitely visit another concert or an opera at the opera house to have a real experience!

An intimate performance in a charming setting, the ensemble were extremely talented performers and accompanied by amazing musicians

The church is a lovely venue for an intimate opera experience. . Choose 1st row left and watch the concentration and precision of the orchestra, marvel at the vocal talents of the singers in beautiful costumes, and enjoy be being close to two mesmerizing dancers performing ballet included in the Rome production.

Affordable, professional, amazing performance. Such a beautiful experience to see Opera in Rome, in a magnificent church.

A lovely experience. The combination of opera and ballet was special, but the two arts worked well together. The church was a good place to have the opera, fantastic acoustics and beautiful background. However, the benches were hard to sit on for 2 1/2 hours.
