Dall'ampio e vasto Elysian Park, fiancheggiato da palme, con le sue viste a volo d'uccello del Dodger Stadium, a una prigione in stile art déco che un tempo ospitava Al Capone. In tutto questo c'è il fiume LA, linfa vitale di Los Angeles.

La nostra guida locale ti incontrerà nel nostro bungalow per biciclette dedicato nell'adorabile Atwater Village, un quartiere facilmente percorribile noto per la sua scena di caffè e lo shopping artigianale. Ti presenteremo la tua ebike e ti faremo conoscere (sì, tutte le ebike hanno nomi!) e ti doteremo di dispositivi di sicurezza.
Ci dirigiamo verso tranquille strade residenziali verso il fiume LA.
Entriamo nel fiume presso il nuovo "Red Car Bridge", senza auto, così chiamato in onore dei leggendari Red Car Rail Trolley che rimbombavano sul fiume L.A. nello stesso punto più di 60 anni fa. Il nuovo ponte metallico, con strisce rosse lungo i lati, è riservato solo a pedoni e ciclisti. Conosceremo anche il nostro amato LA River, la linfa vitale di Los Angeles. Dirigendoci a sud ci fermeremo poi al Taylor Yard Bridge. Questo ponte arancione brillante (lungo 400 piedi x largo 18 piedi e aperto nel 2022 solo per ciclisti e pedoni) offre due belvedere a sbalzo con ampie viste a nord e a sud delle comunità adiacenti e dell'ambiente naturale della sezione del fiume Glendale Narrows.
Il luogo di nascita della moderna Los Angeles, dove fiume, ferrovia e strada si incontrano.
Elysian Valley, conosciuta come Frogtown, è una piccola comunità progressista di artisti, architetti, industria leggera e residenziale multigenerazionale. La sentinella permanente è il nuovo Taylor Yard Bridge. Questo nuovo ponte arancione brillante percorribile in bicicletta con il suo caratteristico stile a scatola a telaio aperto si trova nel tratto relativamente naturale del fiume Glendale Narrows, lungo otto miglia. Misura 400 piedi di lunghezza, 20 di larghezza, è dotato di due piattaforme panoramiche a sbalzo - chiamate belvedere - con ampie viste a nord e sud ed è progettato esclusivamente per pedoni e ciclisti, collegando i quartieri di Elysian Valley e Cypress Park. Taylor Yard Bikeway and Pedestrian Bridge è uno dei tre attraversamenti pedonali recentemente eretti lungo la Los Angeles.
Questa prigione Art Déco di Lincoln Heights (dismessa nel 1965) un tempo ospitava nomi audaci come Al Capone e persone arrestate durante gli Zoot Suit Riots e gli Watts Riots. Purtroppo aveva anche un’ala separata per ospitare l’elevato numero di detenuti gay. Dal 1979 al 2014 l'edificio ha ospitato la Fondazione Bilingue per le Arti. È stato utilizzato anche come location per riprese cinematografiche e per tornei sportivi.
Ritornando all'Elysian Park, attraverseremo il famoso viale fiancheggiato da palme oltre il bacino idrico per ammirare viste fantastiche dall'eliporto dell'Elysian Park e uno dei migliori punti panoramici per ammirare le viste sullo skyline del centro di Los Angeles e delle montagne di San Gabriel .
Sapevi che l'intero complesso del Dodgers Stadium è stato progettato per assomigliare al guantone di un ricevitore? Bene, puoi vederlo tu stesso da questa vista a volo d'uccello. Quindi, passando dal meglio al peggio, passiamo da una delle sculture più brutte di Los Angeles.
Inizieremo la nostra grande corsa in discesa, di nuovo a Frogtown, oltre gli amati caffè di quartiere Just What I Kneaded (caffè vegano), Wax Paper (tutti i panini prendono il nome dai conduttori radiofonici della NPR), caffè La Colombe.
Ritorna sulla River Bike Path, oltre l'iconico Spoke Bicycle Cafe, fino al Love Lock Bridge nel North Atwater Village.
Tornando indietro oltre le scuderie equestri e nelle tranquille strade residenziali dell'Atwater Village, renderemo omaggio a un "campione nazionale" designato: un enorme albero di avocado di oltre 100 anni che è il più grande del suo genere nella nazione.

As an architecture and urban design professor, this e-bike tour gave my students and I an entirely unique view of the city. We started up close with river history and ecology, visited project highlights along the way, then climbed the hills of Elysian Park for a bird’s eye view - Dodger Stadium, Mt Washington, Taylor Yards bridge, all the way to downtown. Though we had varying skill levels among the class, everyone managed the e-bikes just fine. I never could’ve made that route without the nice assist these bikes offer. We were lucky enough to have two guides, too. Gavin brings so much excitement and humor, with an appreciated eye on safety and an eye for detail and a touch of flair (love the bandanas!). Nic joined us later in the tour and really connected with the students. The time flew by. I would absolutely do it again and encourage my friends - visitors and locals alike - to take a tour. So much fun and what a great way to see one of the city’s truly special public spaces.

I had THE BEST time on this E-Bike LA tour! I had been to LA a couple of times before but only really explored the typical hot spots so this tour was SO different and so much fun! Our guide Gavin was really accommodating and enthusiastic and had a lot of local knowledge about these cool pockets of LA that we rode through. It was a totally unique experience. Also, I personally can only stand riding a regular bike for a short while before I get too uncomfortable or tired from peddling, but the E-bikes are awesome! Having the bike take over when you are tired of peddling was a game changer. Thankfully, Gavin kept the pace at a reasonable speed for us so I was able to enjoy the route and soak in the sights and not have to think about much other than that! It was a great way to see a completely different side of LA. I am definitely coming back for another tour and bringing friends! Thumbs UP!
