First Nations guide spoke so quickly and was hard to understand. Seemed disinterested and was just going through the motions of his spiel. Unfortunately for us the tide was out at herring cove but that is not the fault of the tour.
States 2.5 hr tour was only 1hr, 15min. Very short stops. Driver Norm 80 yr old, obviously hard of hearing. Gave canned speech quickly. And I mean Quick. Mumbled as well. Nice man but should not be your guide!! When asked question in the van he ignored one and glared at another. So realized we cannot ask questions as he couldn’t hear. Always saying hurry hurry have to be on schedule. The tour was very short. And the last 15 min was to drop me and others at hotel. I would’ve loved to have the tour and not include drives back to hotels. They don’t pick up at hotel. Very disappointed. Would like my money back!!!
Rianna was our guide. She was was AMAZING! Born and raised here She knew it all; and shared her personal life with us. We learned of her heritage, traditions, way of real life here. Then the wildlife came! Rianna made sure we saw bears!!! Mama and her cubs, eating fresh caught fish! Eagles too! She made this entire trip so special 😊
This was one of the best tours I've been on if you want to learn the history of the town you're in. Shane was awesome!
couldn't understand our tour guide. it was a few stops for short periods of time. wasn't what l thought it would be, a little disappointed
Our tour guide Rihana was a born and raised local and super knowledgeable. We saw a whale and four bears on our tour. We were able to watch a mama bear and two cubs within about 50 yards for about 15 minutes or so playing and swimming. Water falls and salmon climbing as well. Totem poles and carving too. Best tour ever!
We missed going to the beach to see the Puffins and other animals. Also Riana our guide spent too much time talking about her children and not enough description of Ketchican. We enjoyed seeing the bears, and eagles.
Our driver seemed to know a lot and have a lot of history but he was hard to understand - he spoke too fast. We didn't end up seeing any bears or seals, and I understand that it can't be planned. But it made the day kinda boring. If you only have a few hours at port (like us), I'd skip this and explore the town more.
This was an okay excursion. We did get to see a bear (from a distance) catching fish in the river but our tour didn't take us a close as other tours. The tour took us to the salmon ladder, but it is also easily accessible on foot unless you have challenges walking. Saxman Native Village was a bit of a let down. There were quite a few totem poles, but half of the signs showing the names of the totem poles were missing and we didn't really learn anything about the totems. (There is a totem carving demonstration at Saxman Village, but that wasn't included in the tour.) The tour guide was nice and spent most of the time telling personal experiences and about her life in Ketchikan, which gave us a feel for the local culture, but we would like to have heard more about the geography and areas through which we were traveling.
Awesome sightings! Our tour guide was able to show us everything we wanted to see. The bears were the coolest part and seeing live starfish on the beach was exciting. Our guy was super cool and even offered to give us a ride back to the NCL port in order for us to have time to get souvenirs and get back to the boat with plenty of time. I planned this excursion at the last minute but definitely glad i did.
