Jebel Shams, Balcony Walk e Al Hamra Village

In cima a poco più di 3.000 metri, Jebel Shams ("Montagna del sole") è la vetta più alta della penisola arabica. Non è raro vedere neve e grandine nei mesi invernali e nei mesi estivi è ancora soggetto a maltempo. All'interno di questo ambiente si trova quello che viene comunemente chiamato Oman "Grand Canyon", un maestoso canyon semicircolare, a metà del bordo del quale si trova "Balcony Walk". Sebbene generalmente classificati come "moderati" di intensità, le gocce possono essere pure così i camminatori dovrebbero essere a proprio agio con le altezze. Durante il viaggio di ritorno a Muscat, il villaggio di Al Hamra, risalente a 400 anni fa, offre alcuni scorci sulla vita tradizionale del villaggio degli anni passati.

Guideremo direttamente da Mascate a Jebel Shams, prendendo la strada tortuosa che gira verso l'altopiano
Ci fermeremo in cima all'altopiano e guarderemo in basso e attraverso il Grand Canon. È ora di godersi la fresca brezza e scattare foto Quindi scenderemo e inizieremo l'escursione attorno al bordo del Grand Canyon, verso il villaggio abbandonato, e torneremo.
Andremo al villaggio di Al Hamra e ci meraviglieremo delle case abbandonate di mattoni di fango

Great experience! Guide was good, views were amazing. Would highly recommend doing the Balcony Walk. Good shoes or boots are recommended, but at no point is the path so narrow that you'd be scared. It is a gentle downhill slope on the way out, but that means a steady uphill climb on the way back - but if you're moderately fit you'll be ok.
The hike is an absolute highlight. At the end of the hike, a little hidden above the path, it has a lake. It is worth the 15 minutes more to hike. There and back, the hike takes about three hours.

As the name suggests, this is another exciting trek that offers an excellent vantage point from the narrow balcony-style ledge looking down into Oman’s incredible canyon. Undoubtedly, Oman is a geological paradise with diverse rock forms cut over millennia into various landforms. And for all outdoor enthusiasts like us, the W6 hiking trail is always a highlight on the Oman itinerary for all the breathtaking views it offers. Here, the canyon plunges dramatically down below while the high edges give a perspective that we’re on top of the world! If not on top of the world, pun intended, at least, we were very close to the Arabian summit. The W6 hike also led us to a cave, a natural pool, and an abandoned village situated between the gorges of the canyon. However, the most stunning aspect of the trek is curving along the inside of the canyon wall on a ledge overlooking the canyon from the top of 1,000 m-high cliffs. With little elevation gain and clear signs, this trek takes up to four hours, depending on how hooked we get with the stunning views.
