Intera giornata da El Chalten al Lago del Desierto e al Glaciar Vespignani

L'escursione inizia la mattina presto da El Calafate. Prendiamo la mitica Route 40, che costeggia il Lago Argentino fino al fiume La Leona. Passeremo accanto al canyon con lo stesso nome "Cañadón La Leona" e dopo 1,15 ore di viaggio faremo una breve sosta in un antico hotel di percorso "La Leona", quasi un museo della Route 40. Il nostro viaggio prosegue lungo il Lago Viedma, da dove avremo viste magiche di ghiacciai, laghi nascosti e la presenza prepotente del Monte Fitz Roy. Dopo essere arrivati a Chalten, continuiamo il nostro giro verso il Lago del Desierto prendendo il percorso che costeggia il Río de las Vueltas portandoci più in profondità nella foresta di Lengas e Nires. La strada termina dopo un'ora di viaggio e 37 km verso nord arrivando al Lago del Desierto. Dal molo Punta Sur faremo un giro in barca di 20 minuti fino alla riserva naturale Vespignani da dove 3 percorsi autoguidati ci porteranno ai migliori mirador del ghiacciaio Vespignani e alla parete nord del Monte Fitz Roy.

Great tour to visit the area just north of Glaciers National Park. Transfer from El Calafate to El Cheltan in a large van/bus. Our guide, Sandra, gave details of the region, flora and fauna, geology and glaciation. Brief visit to El Chalten then transfer to a van for a 45 minutes drive on a gravel road. Stop for a short hike to a beautiful waterfall. Once arriving at Lago Desierto time for a brief hike on the trails by the boat dock. 20-30 minute cruise on the lake to the main hiking trailhead. Multiple glaciers are visible. If conditions permit you will see the Fitz Roy peak (300+ days a year shrouded in clouds). At the trailhead an orientation is given (in English and Spanish) regarding the hiking trails, views, and time requirements. Amazing hike through the forest. Several viewpoints of the glacier. Some trails are very steep. Trails are well marked. Beverages and cookies are served at the end of the hike. After transfer back on the boat. Then back on the van for the same gravel Road. In El Chalten transfer back to El Calafate in a larger van/bus.
We listened to the very out of place and contemptuous comments that our guide Sandra made regarding people. For example saying "those old people" for older people who were waiting outside the transport. When combining different excursions, the explanations of where each group would go and where to meet again were not clear.
