Museum of exceptional value and very accessible
Freud's house in Vienna, as a museum, is very interesting, educational, with a circuit that makes sense, and very illustrative of his work, despite having limited furniture and artifacts, given that Freud had to leave for exile in London. It is moving to observe the consequences of Nazism, as the names of the people who were confined there are also present. The lobby is adequate and has interesting and provocative souvenirs.
It was exciting to be in the place, which is well-maintained and full of objects, publications, photos, and more related to Freud and his professional and family life. I also recommend stopping to watch the documentary in which Anna Freud talks about her father through short amateur videos from that era, in English.
Very informative and interesting museum. We learned a lot about Freud, his work and his family.
Against the background of my studies (long ago) I could not help but visit this museum. It is nice to be able to dive into the world of one of your 'heroes' and also get the opportunity to visit the house where that person lived. The museum is well documented and describes in detail the development of psychoanalysis. In addition, you will also learn a thing or two about the life of Freud and his family. A documentary film with private images completes the picture.
It is worth visiting. Very nice and has a lot of history.
I see I’m in the minority here but I have to leave a truthful review for my personal feelings. Albeit this was my fiancé’s choice anyway, however I found this museum rather boring. I was looking forward to learning more about Freud as I only know the basics, but I felt like this museum was talking so much about his family and sometimes even distant family members, and him moving out of Austria, rather than his work and achievements. It was also a lot of reading, and I love reading but it was walking from display cabinet to display cabinet or wall to wall just reading very lengthy articles about each object. My fiance enjoyed it so it’s definitely more for some people than others. I did enjoy seeing his office. I feel like if you’re learning about Freud or love reading historical things you’ll get a buzz off this museum. Good to note it is free on the Vienna pass too.
Wonderful experience. I’ve been a psychology professor for 20 years and I learned many new things about Freud. To me visiting Freud’s home was like a pilgrimage. Totally worth it.
The museum does not have or does not offer an audio guide, there is no recreation of the rooms, it is an empty house with information written on the wall
An amazing experience. We strongly recommend the visit.
