Delfi fu abitata fin dai tempi micenei (XIV-XI secolo a.C.) da piccoli insediamenti dedicati alla Madre Terra. L'adorazione di Apollo come dio della luce, dell'armonia e dell'ordine fu stabilita tra l'XI e il IX secolo a.C. Lentamente nel corso dei successivi cinque secoli, il santuario crebbe di dimensioni e importanza. Durante l'VIII secolo a.C. Delphi divenne noto a livello internazionale per i poteri oracolari di Pizia, la sacerdotessa che sedeva su un treppiede, inalò gas di etilene e mormorò parole incomprensibili che predisse il futuro.

Itinerario
Partendo da Atene percorriamo la strada nazionale per Thieves, Levadia, Distomo e il villaggio di Stiri per visitare il monastero dell'XI secolo di Osios Loukas che si trova su una montagna che domina una bellissima vallata. Poi ci dirigeremo verso il bellissimo villaggio di Arachova, che si trova vicino al centro sciistico di Parnaso. Dopo un meraviglioso viaggio panoramico attraverso montagne e fertili vallate, visiteremo l'antica città di Delfi, visiteremo l'oracolo, l'ombelico e il centro del mondo, secondo la mitologia greca! il museo locale e lo stadio locale. Infine, visiteremo il moderno villaggio di Delfi e pranzeremo in una pittoresca taverna tradizionale. Poi torneremo ad Atene.

We ability enjoyed our day. Even thought it was cloudy and drizzling our driver and tour guide were excellent. Delphi is such a beautiful place to visit and what made it more special was that it was on my birthday. Our driver took us to an amazing restaurant over looking hundreds of olive trees in the small village. It was perfect. I couldn’t ask for a more enjoyable and unforgettable birthday.

All of my transports and tours were booked by Exceptional Villas (an outstanding travel agency based in Ireland) with Timeless Athens Tours. The drivers and tour guides were extremely professional and the costs were very reasonable. We did two different tours - private all day Delphi tour and also the 1/2 day Athens walking tour. From the moment Yannis picked us up at our hotel we had a smooth and enjoyable experience. Yannis was excellent company on the drive from Athens. He answered our questions about upcoming stops on our trip and shared helpful information about Greek culture and history. At the Delphi Museum and site, Theodore provided a very thorough explanation of the artifacts and ruins, with historical background of their story through the ages.
