Questo magnifico leone era originariamente situato sulla cima della Grande Tomba di Anfipoli e in qualche momento del passato fu spostato nella sua posizione attuale, a diversi km. lontano dal sito della tomba.
L'antica città di Filippi fu fondata dal padre di Alessandro Magno, dove visiteremo la Basilica, il teatro, il Foro Romano, la cella dove fu imprigionato l'apostolo Paolo ma anche la Chiesa Ottagono, la prima chiesa cristiana d'Europa.
Dopo il sito archeologico, continuerete per il Battistero di Santa Lidia, situato in un ambiente naturale tranquillo vicino al fiume Zygaktis. È dedicata alla prima donna in Europa ad essere battezzata dall'apostolo Paolo, simboleggiando l'inizio del cristianesimo in Europa. Una sosta spiritualmente significativa che completa la visita a Filippi.
Per secoli, nella città di Kavala, bizantini, ottomani, ebrei, mercanti, lavoratori del tabacco, rifugiati e intellettuali si mescolarono e prosperarono. Qui in Macedonia, le rotte marittime incontravano l’asse est-ovest, fertilizzando entrambi. Vedrai i magazzini del tabacco e gli eleganti edifici neoclassici rievocare il glorioso passato della città per poi goderti il presente con un pasto e un drink nel suo vivace centro sotto lo sguardo del castello della città o intorno al porto.

Great day after scheduling mix up in the morning. Visillis was a great host and would recommend him to anyone. All of the stops were interesting and enjoyable. If you want to avoid bus tour this is a good option

Adonis our driver was EXCELLENT!!! You know that friend you haven't see in a long time, this is what it felt like being with Adonis! He had a great knowledge of the Bible and brought it to life. He was incredibly friendly and our family had a great time in his company. He recommended an excellent restaurant in Kavala. What a great way to spend the day visiting the archeological site of Philippi and the city of Kavala. We opted to not purchase the tour guide option which turned out just fine. The site offers a download audio guide with admission. Our driver, Antonis, was a gentleman and had a friendly and positive demeanor. The ride was very comfortable. He turned us on to some great Greek music and his lunch recommendation in Kavala was delicious. If you are looking for something outside of a normal tour, with a laid back vibe, I highly recommend.
