La protesta religiosa contro il regime di Ngo Dinh Diem

Reliquia commemorativa della partecipazione dello zio Ho al movimento anti-tasse presso l'ambasciata centrale, Hue Nell'aprile 1908 ci fu una protesta che chiedeva la riduzione delle tasse da parte della popolazione di Thua Thien Hue. La protesta ebbe luogo dal 9 aprile 1908 e culminò l'11 aprile 1908 quando i contadini di 6 distretti si riunirono per circondare il Palazzo della Nunziatura per avanzare rivendicazioni. Il presidente Ho Chi Minh a quel tempo era ancora uno studente, insieme a un certo numero di altri studenti di Quoc Hoc che si unirono anche loro al gruppo di protesta anti-tasse; "Zio Ho" ha usato la sua conoscenza del francese per aiutare le persone come interprete. Il Palazzo della Nunziatura oggi non esiste più, fu completamente rovinato nel 1945. Per ricordare questo luogo, che fu testimone delle prime azioni patriottiche del presidente Ho Chi Minh, il Museo Ho Chi Minh Thua Thien Hue Thien Hue ha eretto un simbolo di Nguyen Tat Thanh ( Presidente Ho Chi Minh) partecipando al movimento anti-tasse nel 1908 per commemorare.

Al ponte Trường Tiền, imparerai come questo simbolo iconico di Huế sia diventato un obiettivo chiave durante la guerra del Vietnam. Il ponte fu pesantemente bombardato e distrutto più volte, tagliando l'accesso attraverso il fiume Profumo e segnando alcune delle battaglie più feroci della città. Oggi, mentre lo attraversi, il ponte si erge non solo come collegamento vitale per la città, ma anche come promemoria della resilienza e della ripresa di Huế dopo la guerra
9 cannoni che gli artigiani di Hue lanciarono nel secondo anno di Gia Long (1803). Nove cannoni sono considerati una delle opere d'arte in bronzo più preziose. Gli antichi nove cannoni furono collocati ai piedi della Cittadella Imperiale, all’ingresso della Porta Ngo Mon – la città imperiale di Hue. Durante il regno del re Khai Dinh, furono trasferiti nella loro posizione attuale.
Un monumento architettonico della dinastia Nguyen situato al centro della parete sud della cittadella di Hue all'interno della fortezza di Nam Chanh, che è anche il luogo in cui appendere la bandiera della corte reale.

Bem was a great travel guide on our trip to Hue! She did a great job sharing her knowledge of Vietnam's history, brought us to the local market, and we ended the trip at a very good local restaurant. She made sure to accommodate our friend who is a vegetarian. Make sure to order multiple beers!

Fascinating walk with Bem who explained much of Hue’s history from the VN perspective. There is much to learn. Would have liked more info about the Battle for Hue in ‘68. That aside it’s different to the usual tours of Imperial Hue, and provides much more context.

This tour is designed to give a broad “backbone” view of Huế’s history, from around 1310 to the present day. Within 2.5 hours, we aim to provide an overall understanding of how the city has evolved through different periods — including the French and American wars, — while also introducing local culture, the market, and everyday life. Because of the limited time, it isn’t possible to go into deep detail about every single historical event. Regarding the Battle of Huế in 1968: if you are particularly interested in this topic, we would highly recommend our Huế Imperial City Walking Tour. In that tour, we go inside the Citadel and explore in much more detail the areas that were heavily affected by the fighting during the Tết Offensive.
