Huatulco Dolphin & Whale Watching

Thanks for your feedback on our Dolphin & Whale Watching boat tour. For anyone who might read this, on the tour we saw dolphins, sea turtles, leaping manta rays and many species of marine birds. We appreciate the observations of all our guests, but we are a bit unclear what your disappointment is about? We offer boat rides with the opportunity to see marine wildlife hosted by knowledgeable Naturalists and that is what we provided. The guide did her job (well!) which is to give a briefing using laminated species cards at the beginning of the tour, share observations of the species observed during the tour, take photos for our research projects and otherwise host our guests in conversation. Meanwhile the Captain's job is to navigate the boat and search for marine species to observe. He found dolphins, sea turtles, oceanic rays and sea birds. During the first 90 minutes there were many sightings and during the last 60 minutes less. The Captain continued to navigate the boat through the Huatulco National Park while searching for more species to observe. True that during the last 60 minutes we did not find any marine wildlife to observe, but these are wild animals and we do not control them - nor would we want to. We consider every sighting a wonderful blessing and we are grateful to be able to share these experiences in the wild ocean. So that is what happened. Not sure why that was so poor in your opinion - perhaps you expected too much on a 2.5 hour boat ride to see marine wildlife?

Thanks for choosing our little organization and we are glad that you got to see the whales, rays and sea turtles. We always operate two boats and never fill them to capacity. It was much more choppy on that morning than the marine forecast predicted, but we still did our best to show everyone the wonderful marine species in Huatulco - we think turtles, mantas and whales is pretty good! We understand how disappointing it was for you to get motion sickness and we wish that there was some miracle cure. For anyone concerned about motion sickness we recommend; avoiding too many adult beverages the night before a tour, avoiding heavy or greasy food before a tour and if you are susceptible to motion sickness taking a medication you know works for you at least one hour before the trip. Unfortunately, as you wrote above, your misunderstanding caused this situation. So - just the facts for anyone reading this. You signed up for a group tour online where it clearly states that you need to arrive 15 minutes before the departure time at the marina. You received a confirmation email from the reservation system that has the Google map link and clearly states that you need to arrive 15 minutes before the departure time at the marina. When you were already 15 minutes late, the guide called you to find out what happened. As you stated, you were passing the airport, which is 25 minutes from the marina. In respect to all of our guests who arrive on time (or within the 15 minute window we provide) the boat leaves on time. You arrived 40 minutes late. No reasonable person can expect a group tour to wait 40 minutes for them to arrive. You then demanded a refund. Our cancellation policy is the same you will find throughout the tourism industry. It is responsible, fair and very clear. You had the opportunity to read the cancellation policy before signing up online. We do not refund guests that show up 40 minutes late. How would that be reasonable for someone to book half the boat then not show up due to their own mistake and then expect a refund? The vast majority of our guests are kind, respectful and responsible people that we thoroughly enjoy sharing wonderful experiences with.
