Quando il Giappone aderì alla Convenzione del Patrimonio Mondiale dell'UNESCO nel 1992, le persone, compresi i sopravvissuti alla bomba atomica, iniziarono ad alzare la voce a sostegno della trasformazione della Cupola della bomba atomica in un Sito del Patrimonio Mondiale. Una campagna nazionale per raccogliere firme condotta dai cittadini di Hiroshima è stata un successo, ed è stata designata come sito storico nazionale nel giugno 1995 e registrata nell'elenco dei siti del patrimonio mondiale nel 1996 come simbolo che chiede l'abolizione delle armi nucleari e per la pace nel mondo.
Il 6 agosto 1949, con l'entrata in vigore della legge sulla costruzione della città commemorativa della pace di Hiroshima, fu deciso che l'intero distretto di Nakajima sarebbe stato dedicato a "strutture commemorative della pace", e quello fu l'inizio di quello che oggi è il Parco del Memoriale della Pace. Il parco si estende per circa 122.100 mq. È stato progettato da Kenzo Tange, professore all'Università di Tokyo, e da altri tre, la cui proposta è stata selezionata attraverso un concorso di progettazione che ha raccolto 145 proposte. All'estremità sud del parco c'è una fila di tre edifici: l'edificio est, l'edificio principale del Museo Memoriale della Pace e il Centro Conferenze Internazionale di Hiroshima.

Il santuario si trova in una piccola insenatura, mentre la porta torii si trova nel Mare Interno di Seto. Intorno all'insenatura conducono sentieri e i visitatori si divertono a percorrerli ammirando il mare. Dopo il tramonto, il santuario e il cancello torii vengono illuminati tutti i giorni fino alle 23:00, offrendo uno sfondo perfetto agli ospiti del ryokan per godersi una passeggiata serale con yukata e sandali geta. Non è però possibile entrare nel santuario dopo il tramonto. 1 ora è l'ora di pranzo. Il tempo di metà movimento è di circa 30 minuti.

The tour was in no way intended to take us to The Myajima island we were on the Cruise that departed at 4:30pm. She said that she was not intended to return on time. We should have been directed to another tour. Our hearts are broken! Very disappointed!

However, as noted in our itinerary, this standard tour is scheduled to conclude around 5:30 PM at Hiroshima Station. When you made your booking, you noted in the special requirements that you needed to return by 4:00 PM. Recognizing this time conflict, we sent you a message through the Viator system prior to the tour. We explicitly informed you that to meet your 4:00 PM deadline, you would need to leave the tour early after lunch and would unfortunately miss Miyajima. In that same message, we also directed you to our alternative tour specifically designed for cruise passengers. Since we did not receive a reply or a cancellation request from you, we proceeded with your booking as scheduled. We made every effort to warn you about the schedule and provide the appropriate alternative in advance. Thank you for your understanding.
Overall great experience. Koji was a very knowledgeable tour guide. More time in the peace museum would have been nice but tour covered all the sites and was efficiently managed.

Good experience overall. The length of visit was also good since it took most of the day but we still had time for some other things. Very punctual and easy to follow. Crowd size wasn’t too big; less than around 20 people but not uncomfortably small or one on one. Tour guide explained history of Hiroshima well and took us to all the main spots while giving us some free time to explore and shop as well. Used these portable speaker things so that you could hear what he was saying the whole time. Definitely enjoyed.
