So this trip started off not on the right foot but when it started, it made up for a major miscommunication that almost cost us our lives. So in the description of the trip, DONT follow the GPS all the way to the venue. The people who were supposed to meet and greet us were sick and we didn’t know where to park or how far to go. As you enter the last 1/2 mile of the entrance road, you will pass two houses and then you come to a dead end. The road turns into a trail. Since we weren’t sure what to do, the trail seemed driveable and my 14-year old son and I proceeded. Not even 30 seconds moving forward, we got stuck and did not notice how close I was to the curb of the canyon below. One bad mistake to move it forward without knowing how the wheel was turned could have moved us forward and we would have fallen at least 100 feet down which would have been fatal. I’m glad the car got stuck and our tour guide came to the rescue with some local teens from the barrio to help us move it out of the pocket of mud we got stuck in. FAST FORWARD: my son and I joined two other amazing guests which made the trip even fun. However—I must warn you. This trip is NOT for kids below the age of 7. If they are under that age, be ready to carry them but you will be having to climb with your hands in some parts where it will not be easy. Also - you don’t have to be in the best shape but it feels like a Spartan Sprint hike adventure. Expect climbing, walking up into high elevations and it’s very slippery. One bad move can be life threatening matter. Don’t come with tennis shoes. Make sure you come with hiking shoes. My son and I came with hiking closed toe sandles, and the ants did bite us a few times. Other than that — the waterfall and our tour guide was the best. I would totally do this all over again. Bring water. The tour guide only brings a few bottles and they are small. Don’t waste time with bug spray. We never had any flying insects really threaten us the whole time and it doesn’t help jumping in natural water with chemicals. Highly recommend avoid sun screen because their is also lots of shade along 80% of the hike. Recommend—but make sure you are ready for endurance and a fun hiking experience.
My family of 4 (20 to 69) had a blast today!! Charlie was our guide and he knew SO MUCH about the flora and fauna as well as animals. It was an amazing trip!!!
Incredible lush views and beautiful waterfalls. Charlie was an amazing guide and definitely has found his passion. It was the best tour that we went on in Costa Rica. For the young, it is a must do. For older folks like me, it was very challenging hike. There are areas where you need to swim to ropes and climb them.
Jorge was awesome This tour is a blast but not for the weak. Waterfalls were beautiful. Loved the challenges
Fantastic hike! Not easy, but beautiful and exhilarating. I'm 68, with some back and wrist issues, but I managed ok. Glad to have good knees - lots of stairs both up and down. The ropes help, but slippery rock walls are a challenge!
Our tour guide was named Jorge. He was awesome. He was very friendly, very knowledgeable and very open to any questions you may have. He was very helpful as the end of the tour was very challenging as you climb up some of the waterfalls. He helped my wife because it was challenging to her as we are older. We did not climb the last fall because she felt nervous about it. If you're in good enough shape to make the climbs this tour is very worthwhile.
Great hike. Charlie was excellent and showed us multiple plants and kept us safe on the hike. We had dry ground and the hike was moderate to easy in my opinion. If it was raining that would make it much more challenging
We had an amazing adventure today on the 11 o’clock tour with Dustin. There was only 10 people in the group so it felt super personal. The guide gives lots of information about the trees and plants as you are walking. The other reviews said you need to be in really good shape to do it and it was very hard. We personally didn’t feel that it was very hard cardio wise. We were never out of breath or tired. The challenging part is you have to do some rock climbing around the waterfalls but they have marked each exact step and place you hold so we were never nervous or afraid of falling. We are a family with ages 50, 45, 18 and 14. All of us do exercise regularly. We wore our bathing suits with athletic shorts and tanks. You need something that drys quick and isn’t heavy. You will get completely wet. 2 of us had on water shoes that have a good grip and those worked great, the other two just had regular tennis shoes. We didn’t bring anything except one phone, some cash to tip and a bottle of water. They give you a water proof bag to keep your stuff from getting wet. Highly recommend only bringing one phone per group. You don’t want a lot of stuff with you. The guide brings water and the best pineapple I have ever eaten. Tour took about 3 hours. It started monsoon raining on us so we had to skip the last waterfall which was disappointing but better safe than sorry. We highly recommend this tour company. It was the highlight of our trip. We had looked and tried to find a free waterfall that was close to Jaco to climb on our own and we never found one. I feel like the 55 dollars is a great deal. Our tour guide even gave us a tip on locating other wildlife in the area which was awesome.
Great experience, Quite technical hike, some complicated passages. Guide at the top and connoisseur
Absolutely awesome tour! Jorge was very friendly and our guide Charlie was amazing. He was so knowledgable about all the flora and fauna. He took us on a real adventure that was truly beautiful.
