Gli scavi di Ercolano rivelano al visitatore una città romana sepolta in pochi istanti dalla violenza del Vesuvio nel 79 d.C., in un eccellente stato di conservazione. La città fu coperta da una colata di materiale piroclastico, che trasformatosi in fango si stratificò sulla città per circa 23 metri. Grazie al particolare tipo di seppellimento in questo sito sono rimaste intatte intere strutture lignee, decorazioni, suppellettili d’uso quotidiano e circa 300 scheletri delle vittime. Il tempo rimanente sarà dovuto al trasporto da e per l'attrazione.

Roberta met us at the site entrance after we were picked up from the port by Alfredo (?). She gave a lovely tour of the site, and you can tell she was a wealth of knowledge and passionate about the subject. Really brought the ancient site to life. Her explanations in the included museums were also nice. She did a great job navigating us around other groups so that we could see more locations without being crowded. Highly recommend Roberta and this tour! And so glad we chose Herculaneum over Pompeii!
