Questa vasta piazza di ciottoli si snoda sotto la torreggiante fortezza gotica che un tempo ospitava i Papi del XIV secolo. Anche dall'esterno, stordisce con dramma e scala medievali.
Proprio accanto al palazzo, questa cattedrale romanica è rimasta di guardia per quasi 1.000 anni. La Vergine dorata in cima alla cupola è uno degli emblemi della città.
Un bellissimo parco paesaggistico con sentieri tortuosi, stagni di anatre e vista sulla scogliera sul Rodano, sul Mont Ventoux e sul sottostante Pont d’Avignon.
Non è necessario pagare per visitare il ponte: la sua vista migliore è dai bastioni o dalla riva del fiume, dove la sua campata troncoconica sul Rodano diventa un simbolo di leggenda e perdita.
Una piazza più tranquilla e ombreggiata vicino a una chiesa del XIV secolo, piena di caffè con terrazza. È leggermente fuori dai sentieri turistici, il che la rende una delle preferite dalla gente del posto che vuole un ritmo più lento.

Our tour guide, Jerome, was outstanding! He was fast paced, which we wanted and received, as well as a very knowledgeable 'historian' of the town. We saw the popular sites as well as several sites that were not at all mentioned in most short descriptions of the town.....very insightful. Great recommendations for restaurants and shopping needs along the routes. And, he had perfected the spots for stopping in shade during a very sunny, warm day....appreciated! Definitely recommend Jerome and this tour.

The tour started out very good and we were very excited. However, as time went on, we did not end up seeing that much of Avignon and did not end up learning that much about Avignon.

Itinerary was good and appreciated guide meeting us at our hotel next to the Popes Palace. We were disappointed that there was no tasting offered at all. Our tour was not a full two hours. Not good enough for the price.

I would say this was an informative tour, but did not wow in ways other tours have. Although there was only my husband and I on the tour, it felt like there was no real personalization or connection which we have experienced with other tour guides. For a large group tour and without paying too much, it would give you a good overview and history of the city.

Jerome is an outstanding guide. Our private tour started near the city gates across from the Avignon train station. We walked through much of the city along back streets, away from the crowds. Jerome is very knowledgeable about Avignon's sites and its history. The tour went past the Palace of the Popes, Saint-Bénézet (the bridge in the song Sur Le Pont d'Avignon) where he talked about both. Avignon has a long history of Jewish residents including during the time of the popes. Jerome explained what life was like for them during that time. Our tour ended near the center of the city. I highly recommend this private walking tour. As someone with ancestors from Avignon, I appreciated Jerome's deep knowledge of the history of the city.
